Alicia holds a Master’s of Education in Special Education, specializing in learning disabilities and emotional disturbance, with over twenty years of experience in the education field. This has been primarily outside of the school system working closely with teachers, as a tutor and advocate. In addition, she is a registered Yoga teacher with Yoga Alliance and teaches in various venues throughout
Cary. Alicia specializes in helping to unlock learning by accessing student’s individual needs. This entails the creation of individual strategies and goals to help learners glide down a path toward optimal success. The first key is discovering learning styles, strengths, areas in need of improvement and moving forward from there. Then, the idea is to help students develop a program utilizing their strengths and finding ways to improve and work around areas of weakness. This goes for students looking to move the dial in an academic area because they want to increase proficiency; and for those working with a deficit and looking to find ways to reach basic benchmarks. In addition, her background as a Yoga instructor has truly helped her to see the benefits of incorporating movement and breath to settle the body for learning, allowing students to improve focus and connections within the brain. For those students who suffer with anxiety, ADHD, high functioning autism and a myriad of other challenges, this can become a very helpful tool.
