Project SEARCH Embassy Suites Raleigh Durham-Raleigh RTP is a unique, business focused, one-year school-to-work program for high school students with disabilities whose goal is competitive employment.
Were learning lots of independence and self advocacy skills around here.
Vocational skills are important, but this is where the magic happens.

Here's Jahleel on his first day of work last Friday at Hampton Inn! He's doing a similar job to his internship at Project SEARCH, so the skills he learned here fully translate to his new job!

Yesterday we played a unified Special Olympics game of kickball with the interns and staff at Embassy Suites Raleigh/Durham. It was a great game and perfect weather! The interns had a blast and it was fun to see everyone's competitive spirits come out! Thank you Embassy for your constant dedication to and support of our interns!

Ian started his third internship in the dishroom this week and is doing amazing! He is blowing everyone away with how well he is doing and how happy he is in there! Sometimes it takes three chances to find the right fit and that's why we do three different internships!

Last week was our "workshop week" where we had a week in between internships to work on other things before we gear up for the third and last internship. We spent the week traveling around town visiting different businesses and checking out different parks. We were so impressed with the questions the interns asked at each business and so thankful for the welcoming hosts everywhere we went!
We went to CFA and participated in Mock Interviews; LifeTime Fitness and had a great tour and mini cycling experience; Brier Point Retirement Center and had a wonderful tour and got to sample the ice cream machine; a tour of BJ's and their self-checkout process; a full tour of Zaxby's and got to make tea, milkshakes and cookies, and learn how to take an order on the machine; Raleigh Parks and Rec Maintenance department and got to see the whole process of how all of the plants and flowers get to be landscaping at all of the Parks and Rec facilities; and got to visit multiple parks around town and ended the week going to find all of the Dambo Trolls at Dix Park!
In between all of these we worked on interviewing, thank you cards, and learned where our third internships were going to be!

BIG congrats to Seth who ran a 5k this morning at Disney World! He got to meet Merida too!
He has trained very hard all year to run this race and we are so proud of him! He's knocking it out of the park at work and for fun.
