Behind every successful farm is a team committed to doing the work well and doing it together.
Our Farm of the Month recognition gives us the opportunity to highlight the people, leadership and teamwork that keep our farms moving forward. This month, we’re proud to recognize Bear Creek Site 3, led by Farm Manager Rachel McIlmoil.
Rachel has been part of the Bear Creek system since 2007, when she started as a lab technician at BCG 2. Today, she focuses on creating an environment where employees feel comfortable sharing ideas, asking questions and continuing to learn.
“We come together as a team every week with a meeting where everyone has the opportunity to share thoughts and ideas,” Rachel said. “Everyone works as a team to get the job done.”
Cross-training is also a priority at Site 3. Rachel encourages employees to learn both barn and lab responsibilities, giving team members opportunities to grow while helping the farm maintain workflow when additional support is needed.
For Rachel, one of the most rewarding parts of her role is seeing others succeed, both on her farm and throughout the Bear Creek system.
“I enjoy helping others succeed. Not only on my farm but within the entire Bear Creek system. I also enjoy new challenges and opportunities to grow.”
That team-first mentality is shared across Site 3. As one employee put it, “Teamwork is the best way to solve most problems on farms; without your team, you are nothing.”
