Student Spotlight: Meet Michelle Johnson 🎶💚

Michelle is a vocal music major at Panola College who has always had a passion for music. She chose the program to strengthen her talents, develop her musical abilities, and continue expressing herself through something she loves.

Throughout her time at Panola College, some of Michelle’s favorite experiences have been performing and building lifelong friendships with fellow students who share her passion for music.

The vocal music program has played an important role in Michelle’s personal and professional growth. She credits her directors for helping her develop her talents in different ways, from challenging her to step outside her comfort zone to teaching her valuable life lessons.

After graduation, Michelle plans to transfer to a four-year university to pursue a degree in music performance and continue developing her talents.

Her advice to future students is to get involved and make the most of every opportunity college has to offer. She encourages students to join clubs and organizations, build connections, and step outside their comfort zones, recognizing that the college experience is about more than earning a degree. It's also about creating relationships and opportunities that can lead to future success!

Mark your calendar for two upcoming musical performances at Panola College!

The Panola College Concert and Jazz Bands will take the stage on October 15 at 7 p.m., and the Pipers Show Choir will present We Are Here – A Show Choir Journey from Darkness to Light on October 20 at 7:30 p.m. Both performances will take place in the Q.M. Martin Auditorium and are free to attend.

Panola College has been awarded a five-year, $3 million federal Title III Strengthening Institutions Program grant to expand student support and improve institutional effectiveness.

The grant will support a coordinated approach to helping students navigate college, overcome barriers, and prepare for employment or transfer. Key initiatives include Success Coaches, a Student Support Hub, a Career and Transfer Center, expanded work-based learning opportunities, and improved technology to monitor student progress and guide institutional improvements.

“This investment will allow us to build a stronger system of support around our students,” said Dr. Jessica Pace, President of Panola College. “The goal is not simply to provide additional services, but to create lasting systems that help students succeed from the time they enroll through graduation, transfer, and entry into the workforce.”
