Enjoyed an afternoon at the Atlanta Maker Faire with a great group -- the Cartersville Middle School Women in STEM -- and members of the CHS robotics team. Lots of FUN and lots to LEARN! AAUW is thrilled to help support them!

(Un)happy Equal Pay Day today to America's working women. Did you know that a pay gap exists even among male and female college graduates with comparable degrees just one year after graduation? And as long as employers are allowed to ask about applicants' salary history, that disparity is likely to widen over the course of a woman's career. We need the Paycheck Fairness Act!

After announcing last fall that AAUW would have no more used book sales at the Rose Lawn festival, we have reconsidered and WILL have one next September in order to continue providing local scholarships! So PLEASE . . . . consider donating books!!!

AAUW is the nation's oldest (1881) and largest organization promoting equity for women and girls through education, advocacy, research, and philanthropy. Membership is open to anyone (including men!) with a college degree, as well as to current college students. These AMAZING young female scientists at MIT are one reason AAUW sponsors the Cartersville Middle School Women in STEM. We hope some of our girls will also find their passion in the STEM fields and make great advances that will help mankind.

Time to TURN SOME USED BOOKS INTO SCHOLARSHIPS for local women!!! AAUW has one week left to accept gently used books for our scholarship fundraiser book sale at the Rose Lawn Arts Festival on September 17-18. Drop-off is at 123 Leake St. in downtown Cartersville. All types of books except encyclopedias and textbooks, please!

Congratulations to Ruth Taylor Richir and Valerie Holt, the newest Cartersville-Bartow AAUW scholarship winners! Ruth is pursuing a graduate degree in education at KSU; Valerie's counseling degree will come from the U. of W. AL. We are happy to assist these deserving women to complete their education goals!
