Striking up some summer fun! 🎳

Thank you to Majestic Lanes for hosting our school for our summer bowling! From celebrating first-ever strikes to mastering the art of aim, our students had an absolute blast! Bowling is a great way for our students to practice hand-eye coordination, balance, and social skills through play. We are so proud of everyone’s participation and effort! Way to go Gators! 🐊

Some of our cars got a makeover last week and are getting one today for our summer car wash! ☀️ Our work program students fundraised toward our summer school trips and practiced some sudsy cleaning skills. Thank you to our staff who supported by getting their car washed! 🚗🧽🫧

Maybe you saw our sneak peek earlier this week, The Gateway School just had our science fair and we have some cool projects to show off! Between digging for fossils, a sensory safari, dental hygiene experiments, and more, we can’t decide which is our favorite! We want to give a huge thank you to Ms. Nicole for organizing our science fair and for all our student presenters who stayed and showcased their class project. This summer keeps getting better and better! Our Gators spent last Friday cooling off and catching some rays for a much needed pool day! 🏊🤿💦☀️We splashed around, dove for water toys, played catch, and had a lot of fun swimming around! We can’t wait for the next pool day! Thank you so very much to the Edison Elks for having us 🫶

Today, we had some special visitors at the Gateway School! Stay tuned this week to find out who they were… here’s a hint: one of them is very familiar with our school mascot!

OT Spotlight! ❤️🧡💛💚🩵💙💜

This summer, Mrs. Sara is creating weekly tactile and visual sensory bins for students to work with during sessions. This encourages creative play with multi sensory materials and allows for a contained environment to explore different textures and patterns! Last week, our sensory bins were filled with a cornstarch and colored water cups. This week, we squished into gelatin and sorted out objects!

Can’t wait to see what next week’s sensory bin is!

Occupational therapy in schools is about much more than handwriting. It helps students develop the sensory, motor, and functional skills they need to participate more confidently throughout the school day.

At The Gateway School, occupational therapy supports students with sensory regulation, fine motor development, daily living skills, and greater independence. These strategies are integrated into classroom routines so students can use them where they matter most.
