How's homeschooling going?

Captain's Log: Week 8

The teens instigated a water fight in the kitchen, I honestly don't remember how it started. But it ended with one grabbing a spray bottle from her room and hiding behind me....I warned them they would not like it if they got me wet (I was just trying to enjoy a cup of coffee) and they did not heed this warning. Then, I was the bad guy because I took the spray bottle and wouldn't return it to the girl and the boy found his sister stomping off hilarious.

Bonus....the boy FINALLY caught up and power cords were returned. For the sake of my sanity, please send encouraging vibes that he continues to stay so.

We're in the midst of week 3 and we've had a bit of a rocky/unorganized start.

The boy takes some time getting back into the groove (thank goddess this is his senior year) and is a week behind so he's playing catch up while sick this week. He is easily distracted and didn't complete a single assignment last week since I was working and not here to redirect. We're working hard on his self management this year. But now that he knows mom will take his TV and gaming computer power cords (not the electronics!) when he doesn't stay on task, hopefully he does better.

The girl rarely needs me when it comes to schooling, outside of the occasional clarification question, and is completing assignments ahead of time. She even gives big brother a hand with their geometry assignments ❤️.

With both kids working 20 hours a week, I've implemented a new rule this year that limits the amount of time they can work on school during the day and I have forbidden any schooling on Saturday and Sunday. If they fall behind they can use Friday (normal off day) as a catch up school day. So the boy really has to work on his focus to get caught up, but I am trying to keep them from burning out as this is the first time they have had to work and go to school at the same time.... plus adding sports for the girl... It's going to be a whirlwind of a year.

Doesn't help that perimenopause flipped the brain fog switch to full power on mom (we're working on it) and I have forgotten about last week's chemistry lab we were supposed to do, so now we're doing two this week, and there's been two assignments I absolutely forgot I assigned and could only give my daughter a blank stare when she first asked about them....in my defense I did put all our assignments together months ago.....and brain fog... I have also returned to working part-time and am still working on the balance with our schooling.

So.... it's been a bumpy start, but the kids are trying and that's really all I expect from them. ❤️
