⚙️ From steam locomotives to CNC machines, WNC Machine Tool Technology graduates are putting their skills to work!
Students in Western Nevada College’s Machine Tool Technology (MTT) program learn how to operate manual and computer-controlled machinery to cut, shape and turn metal into precision parts, skills that can open doors to a wide range of careers.
And WNC graduates are taking those skills in some pretty exciting directions! 🚂🔧
Former students have gone on to become a head machinist at railroad museum, precision manufacturer and custom fabricator, a high school machining instructor, a business owner and specialized craftsperson, a maintenance technician at a coffee giant’s distribution center, a student government intern, and more. MTT Instructor Ronald Beller says students can develop valuable industry skills in as little as one semester, giving them a strong foundation for employment and continued training.

🎓 The semester hasn’t even started, and WNC President Dr. J. Kyle Dalpe is already getting to know our newest students!
During a bustling Fall 2026 Kickoff at Western Nevada College, President Dalpe had the pleasure of meeting Andrew Perez, a Carson City resident and graduate of Incline High School who is beginning his WNC journey this fall as an International Business major.
Andrew is just getting started, but President Dalpe is already making connections with the students who will help shape WNC’s future.

Big support for big career opportunities!
A $50,000 grant from the NV Energy Foundation is helping Western Nevada College enhance its Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) program with a new outdoor shade structure, upgraded classroom furnishings and improved access to the program’s CDL driving simulator.
These investments will create a safer, more comfortable and effective learning environment for students preparing for careers in one of Nevada’s most in-demand industries.
We’re grateful to the NV Energy Foundation for investing in WNC students and helping strengthen Northern Nevada’s workforce!

WNC is ready to kick off Fall 2026.
Western Nevada College came together today for our Fall Kickoff, Employee Lunch & Benefits and Wellness Fair, celebrating the people who make WNC such a special place to learn, work and grow, while enthusiastically looking ahead to the start of the semester on Aug. 31.
President Dr. J. Kyle Dalpe welcomed new employees, highlighted exciting campus improvements and upcoming enhancement projects, and invited employees to share what gets them excited about coming to work each day, as well as their go-to karaoke songs. Executive team members also shared their departments’ accomplishments and plans for the future. More of WNC’s 2026-33 Strategic Plan was revealed while recognizing the efforts and dedication of those who contributed to it.
Congratulations to our 2026 award winners:
🏆Katherine “Kat” Williams: Faculty Employee of the Year
🏆 Nick Myers: Classified Employee of the Year
🏆 Lisa Gallo Swan: Administrative Faculty Employee of the Year
🏆 Associated Students of Western Nevada: President’s Team Award
We also celebrated the 2026 tenure appointments of Dr. Patrick Bell and Curtis Kupferschmid.
And for the first time, President Dalpe handed out some wonderfully unconventional Scrappy Awards to recognize employees who went above and beyond, from baking 200 potatoes overnight (Heather Rikalo and Hilda Villafana), to completing a long-awaited bathroom renovation (James Feser and Jeff Erickson), wrangling a snake (Dan Smith) and conquering a grueling 100-kilometer trail race (Cameron Carr and Nigel Harrison).
The day wrapped up with a pasta lunch, ice cream, wellness resources and plenty of opportunities to connect with our benefits partners and one another.
