Congrats to Carson High Senior Makala Heyder! She is this week's Rotary Club of Carson City Senior Spotlight. Makala is a senior who has distinguished herself as an outstanding student, athlete, leader and community volunteer. She has earned a 4.75 weighted GPA while excelling in challenging coursework, particularly in math and science. A two-time Academic Letter recipient and two-year member of the National Honor Society, Makala plans to attend a service academy and study chemistry or physics before pursuing a career in military service. Many thanks to the Rotary Club of Carson City for all their support for our teachers and students. They were recognized today as a Legacy Level Partner and the Community Partner of the Month for August. They were recognized as a Legacy Level Partner because their support aligns with all five goals outlined in the district’s Strategic Plan. For Goal 1: Exceptional Staff, they recognize teachers each month through their “Educator of the Month” program. For Goal 2: Curriculum That Matters, they award a $5,000 check each year to a school, department, teacher or educational program to implement innovative, classroom-based projects. For Goal 3: Engaged Parents and Families, they host a Carson High School senior through their weekly “Senior Spotlight” program. For Goal 4: Healthy Generations of Carson Students, the Rotary Club worked alongside the Carson High Interact Club in a hands-on service project called “Crutches for Africa” to benefit individuals in need in Uganda. For Goal 5: Community in Full Partnership, during COVID, the Rotary Club of Carson City donated more than 800 air purifiers to all district teachers and staff. Read more at CarsonCitySchools.com.

To celebrate 20 years of impact, Food for Thought, Carson City will host a "Stronger Together" Community Giving Event Tomorrow, Saturday, Aug. 29, from 2:00-7:00 p.m., at 3246 North Carson Street. They will have a car show, food trucks, raffle prizes, a bounce house, a DJ and community and vendor booths. Together, we can make sure no child goes hungry.

Congrats to Mr. Roswell Allen for "Making the Difference" and being named the 2025-26 Edustaff Substitute of the Year for Nevada. He was recognized during the school board meeting at the Carson City Community Center last night. As part of the recognition, Allen also received a $250 check and an engraved glass award.
