Congratulations Grant on getting set up at your own Airport.

What a great story.

After Grant comes to Sport Aviation Center to find out if we wants to fly a trike, he flies Paul’s Revo and goes all in and buys a top of the line Evolution Revo.

Grant’s Revo is delivered to Carson City and Grant does another session in his new Revo and solo’s it in Carson City but only for a few hours. He puts it in his trike trailer and brings it back up to Portland Oregon and within 30 days of exhaustive searching Grant finds a hanger south of Portland in Albany Oregon.

Paul flies up to Portland/Albany and provides training at Grants new airport and a couple of other airports transitioning to Sea Level thick air scenarios. Three and a half hours and Grant is authorized to solo at his airport and a couple of other airports close by.

Day two was a hundred mile cross county training flight authorizing Grant to fly the cross country flight solo preparing him for the checkride.

Since summers are short in Portland, Grant is flying his heart out now that he is turned loose for the remainder of the summer.

Next we expect to see Grant for his checkride. Welcome to the WSC Trike community.

Helicopter operation incident acceptable? What do you think appreciate feedback to gain knowledge.
At about 6:34 pm Thursday June 25, 2026 the REMSA helicopter took off the normal location just South East of the Sterling Air building at CXP.

I was fueling my Slings. Both fuel tanks were open. I saw the REMSA/Care Flight helicopter warming up just south of me as I was fueling my aircraft.

Typically, for takeoff I have seen the REMSA/Care Flight helicopters ascend to at least 300 feet, coordinate with traffic for 91.113 compliance and proceed in the direction, typically North, East or South to avoid other aircraft and not create a hazard, be courteous, professional and demonstrate good airmanship procedures. I personally complimented Cory, the airport manager, recently on how well the REMSA/Care Flight operation was working.

During the REMSA/Care Flight helicopter departure, Instead of ascending as I have seen before and what they typically do, it turned north and came straight and low over the fuel truck. It appeared something was wrong, so I watched as the REMSA/Care Flight helicopter started flying directly at me low level. I could see the rotor blast coming. It was about 30 feet high. The blast hit me with small rocks and dust so I dived in back of my car for protection.

I was in disbelief someone would intentionally:
• Fly low over aircraft parked on the ramp they were supposed to stay away from
• Intentionally blast someone, parked in front of airplanes, trunk open, visible and standing clearly visible in back of aircraft.

The pilot had the choice of altitude and direction for this departure. I expected it to ascend and go in any direction not at me or my aircraft. The pilot decided to fly low directly at me.
Heavy turbine powered aircraft accelerating. Known heavy rotor blast. Could see the dirt and dust clearly in front of aircraft………

My car was blasted with dust and small rocks. My fuel tanks were open and debris ended up in my fuel tanks.

I am sure the jet and other turbine prop aircraft parked on the ramp would not appreciate the debris on their aircraft and into their engines.

In their operating procedures it states:
When operating over hangers or tied down aircraft areas, helicopters will be above 300 feet AGL to minimize disturbance.

This is being investigated and I am asking for industry feedback. We obviously need to review the REMSA/Care Flight operation at this airport and find out how this happened and how it cannot happen again.

What does the industry think about this particular incident?
What actions do you think should be taken?

Grant solo’s his Revo WSC Trike.

With a combined effort of Paul Hamilton WSC CFI/DPE and Michaela Flint WSC CFI bringing Grant through the Sport Aviation Center Training process, Grant has soloed his trike three days now.

This is a huge accomplishment and the beginning of a new phase in life for Grant. Congratulations.

Private Pilot to CFI-S.

Congratulations Jayden from Yuba City CA for coming to Sport Aviation Center and training with Michaela Flint and taking a CFI-S Checkride with Paul Hamilton.

Jayden prepared extensively and showed up for intense flight and ground training. Every day a heavy schedule.

Jayden takes his new CFI-S back to CA and plans on training with one of the up and coming flight schools.

Great job Michaela Flint CFI-S for training/recommending and Jayden for your hard work.

Another success story. Michaela CFI-WSC does proficiency check for Wayne to add WSC Trike to his airplane sport pilot certificate.

Wayne now has a trike in mind to buy in Idaho and is ready to go. Thanks for coming to train with us. From nothing, to landing in the bumps to passing the proficiency check (WSC add on).

Congratulations Wayne.

Happy Mother's Day to all the incredible mom's.

We especially want to give a shout out to those moms who are so supportive of their young women and men starting out in their aviation career. You know who you are.

With all the calls I get from all types of students and pilots working on their Sport pilot or CFI certificate, the most common thread is I need to “get it done”.

Some typical scenarios:
• I am training here locally but the CFI’s get their hours in and they are off to the airlines. I have to start with a new recruit CFI and this just adds time and expense and I feel like I will never get my certificate.

• I am training and the aircraft is typically down for maintenance or when the aircraft are up, the aircraft is over booked and it is hard to get flying.

• The weather here has been bad and it has been hard to fly so it is hard to get constant flying time.

If you want to “Get It Done” we have two aircraft, three flight instructors, a DPE on staff and a proven accelerated training program. A one stop shop.

We have you prepare as much as you can on your own before you get here so we can get right to it. We pick up where you left off and do what is need for flight/ground and do your checkride right away, no waiting.

Big question, how much and how long? This depends on you. If you go to my web site https://SportAviationCenter.com and click on Pilot Training and then “Time and Cost”, this provides you a detailed description for most of your questions.
Great time of year, immediate openings.

NEW BOOK RELEASE - Complete Guide to Sport Pilot and CFI Checkride.

Announcing the release of the fifth edition, “COMPLETE GUIDE TO SPORT PILOT AND CFI CHECKRIDE” book.
Previously titled, “SPORT PILOT & CFI CHECKRIDE”, the book has been completely revised, updated, and includes the latest MOSAIC rules.

Paul has created the clearest, easiest-to-understand explanation for everyone. From an introduction section explaining all aspects: Pilot, Aircraft, and maintenance, to specific individual questions for all.

Also included are the most commonly asked questions from Sport Pilot applicants, as well as CFIs who trained the students for a checkride:

• What are the most common mistakes applicants make to fail a checkride? and:
• What do I need to know to pass a checkride?

Another excellent feature of the fifth edition is the Scenario-Based Questions, which the FAA is incorporating into training and checkrides to move beyond stick-and-rudder rote flying skills and apply real-world problems for the pilot to analyze.

Paul uses a unique approach: presenting a scenario-based question, then offering different responses and notes on each, explaining what the DPE would be thinking about the answer. This helps students know how to answer scenario-based questions grounded in their actual experience, and assesses the CFI/DPE's ability to formulate such questions. Scenario-based questions are not yes/no or right/wrong; they are meant to help develop a plan while flying using Aeronautical Decision Making.

Additionally, each checkride task has the “Errors to Avoid” spelled out.

After 10 years as a certified flight instructor (CFI) and flight school owner providing sport pilot and CFI in-person training, online pilot courses, and a designated pilot examiner (DPE) providing checkrides, Author Paul Hamilton has written this breakthrough book, helping:

• Student pilots prepare for the checkride,
• CFIs teaching the student,
• CFI applicants,
• CFIs teach the CFI to be a certified flight instructor, and
• DPEs recommending applicants on what to study to pass the Sport Pilot Checkride or CFI-S Sport Pilot Checkride.
