Intention, intention, intention
Control, control, control
In Tai Chi, the posture Golden Rooster Stands on One Leg is often overlooked because it is not a complex nor intricate technique. Many will just raise the leg and move on… However, the proper technique requires many specific elements to be in place, working together, to not only raise the leg in control, but to keep balanced in movement and stillness when the leg is raised. The entire body should be engaged and fortified, and most importantly, all elements should continue as the foot is returned to the ground. My students often hear me say “step down because you want to step down, not because gravity is making you!” More focus, more control!
