University of West Georgia Blue Coats

University of West Georgia Blue Coats Blue Coats are a select group of student leaders from across campus involved in a diverse range of activities and pursuing various educational disciplines.

We are students that love the University of West Georgia and have a story to tell about our experiences at this unmatched institution. The Blue Coats enhance the impact of the Division of University Advancement through ambassadorship, stewardship and selfless service. We do this by serving as hosts at advancement events and interacting with those who can make a significant impact on our futures at

UWG. We also provide a student perspective during advancement events and meetings and host alumni, donors, and friends of the university on campus visits. Blue Coats attend special events and serve any needed task for the Division of University Advancement.

This past Friday and Saturday, the UWG Blue Coats proudly served at the Spring 2026 Commencement ceremonies.

The Blue Coats played an important role by assisting the graduates on stage handling diploma scrolls, and transporting faculty members via golf carts. It is always an honor to serve at Commencement and help celebrate students as they begin the next chapter of their journeys.

A special shoutout to all UWG Blue Coats graduating this Spring. We are incredibly proud of everything you have contributed, and we wish you continued success in all that lies ahead!

This week in the spotlights is Jalen! Hear all about his journey as a Blue Coat!

“Blue Coats has impacted me by allowing me to see a completely different side of the university beyond just my role as a nursing student. In nursing, I am often focused on clinical performance, exams, and patient care, but Blue Coats has given me the opportunity to represent the university as a whole and connect with alumni, administrators, and prospective students in a more relational way. It reminded me that leadership is not just about clinical competence, but about presence, professionalism, and how you make others feel. Some of my most lasting memories are the friendships I’ve built. Serving alongside other driven, passionate students who genuinely love UWG has pushed me to grow both personally and professionally. The conversations before events, the shared responsibility during networking functions, and the pride we feel when representing the university have created bonds that will last well beyond graduation. Blue Coats didn’t just expand my campus involvement, it expanded my perspective and my community.”

After graduation, Jalen plans on beginning his career in the ICU to continue building his critical care knowledge and hands-on experience. He wants to strengthen his clinical judgment, manage high-acuity patients, and grow confident in complex decision-making. His long-term goal is to continue advancing within critical care as he expand his skills and professional opportunities.
