A suspect is in custody following a deadly shooting in Douglasville. Douglas County deputies arrested 20-year-old David Marc Anthony Powell early Sunday morning on Interstate 20 near Highway 5. He is charged with murder and aggravated assault in the death of 19-year-old Lyric Farley, a University of West Georgia student.
Investigators say deputies were called at 1:17 p.m. Saturday to a parking lot behind a Dollar General on Central Church Road. Farley was found suffering from gunshot wounds and was pronounced dead at the scene. Authorities say the two had a personal relationship and met after a disagreement.
Farley was a graduate of Carrollton High School and a current student at the University of West Georgia.
During a press conference WUTV attended Monday, Lieutenant Colonel Tavarreus Pounds expressed compassion for the victim’s family, stating in part:
“You never want to see anybody, especially a young woman like that. You feel compassion for them and the family.”
This remains an ongoing investigation. WUTV will continue to provide updates as new information becomes available.
