Homecoming Week is almost here! Carroll County High School will celebrate its annual Homecoming in a big way this year!

Students will compete for points throughout the week of Aug. 31-Sept. 3 based on participation, field decorating and good attendance at school. Daily theme days will be announced soon!

A pep rally and Powder Puff football game are making a return to daytime this year! Students will fill the stands and players take the field at 1:15 p.m. Everyone is invited to come watch the game and support our student athletes as we prep for Homecoming! Guests must still sign in at the CCHS office with their photo ID.

The Homecoming football game will be on Friday, Sept. 4 against Grant County. The cheerleading squad is sponsoring a Homecoming Dance on Saturday, Sept. 5 from 8-10 p.m. in the CCHS cafeteria. Tickets will only be sold on Aug. 31 and Sept. 1. Students bringing a guest from another school must have an out-of-district form completed.

Cheerleaders put a lot of trust in one another as we saw when Brooklyn Hicks flew into the air with a boost from her teammates. You can see them in action tonight when our Panther football team travels to neighboring Trimble County. Kickoff begins at 7:30 p.m. Hope to see you there supporting our student athletes! 🖤💛

Two emergency medical technicians from the Carroll County Ambulance Service visited the careers classroom at CCMS recently. Eighth grade students learned about the career opportunities, experiences the two EMTs have had, education requirements and benefits of helping others. Thank you to our local ambulance service for taking time to work with our students.

Carroll County Board of Education member Corey Groseclose has announced his resignation from the board in an effort to support his daughter’s goal to become a teacher in Carroll County Schools.
“My daughter has been looking at positions in the Carroll County school district for the last two or three years. So, as a family, we’ve talked about the ramifications of that a couple of times in the past. We’ve talked about what that would mean for me and my role in the board, and what that would mean for her in the district,” he explained.
Miranda Groseclose Perez is a 2016 graduate of Carroll County High School. She has accepted the English Language Learners teaching position at Carroll County Middle School.
“Based on the way the law is written, both of us cannot work in the district at the same time,” Groseclose said. “Based on me wanting to help her be able to fulfill her goals of working in the district, I’ve decided to step down from my role in the district. After ten years of service, this was not a decision that was made lightly.”
Groseclose said he is disappointed to not be able to complete his term on the school board, but feels this is a good reason to resign. “Over the past decade, I have had the privilege of witnessing many changes and being part of important decisions that have helped shape the future of our schools. While there have certainly been challenges along the way, I am proud of the work we have accomplished together and especially proud of the people who work every day to provide our students with the best education and opportunities possible,” Groseclose said in his resignation letter.
Perez is married to a native Spanish speaker and has community connections to many of the students she will have, Groseclose said, noting he believes that it will help her develop strong connections with her students right away.
“I think it will be a good move for her and I want to support that,” he said.
Board Chairperson Gwen Chapman, Vice Chairperson D’Anne Smith and board member Carolyn Jones all praised Groseclose and his commitment to Carroll County Schools.
“It’s been a pleasure serving with Corey Groseclose. His contributions have been insightful and he has contributed to the forward progression of our school district,” Chapman said.
After the board accepts his resignation, they have 60 days to fill the vacancy. Cartmell Elementary students were rewarded for their great cafeteria behavior with a special fine dining experience. Tables were dressed with tablecloths featuring their house colors, and candelabras added an extra touch of elegance. Some lucky diners even declared the candelabra’s “diamonds” were real!

Students earned this special treat by following lunch expectations and earning points for their class and house throughout the week. Each class can earn up to three points per day.

Congratulations to this week’s winners:
⭐ Ms. Williams’ class - 13 points
⭐ Ms. Johnson’s class - 13 points
⭐ Ms. Downey’s class - 15 points
⭐ Ms. Owens’ class - 15 points

Cartmell Elementary School second graders were sorted into their houses during the first school assembly last week. Each student at Cartmell is randomly placed in a house that works together throughout their years in the school. Four houses, one family is their theme. Students learn house chants, work together on projects and can earn points for their houses throughout the year. (More photos and videos on the District page.)
