Exciting news in our college! 🎉 We welcome Political Science and Criminology & Criminal Justice to our School of Social Sciences—and announce the creation of the new School of Psychology.

Beginning in Fall 2026, UWG College of Humanities, Arts, and Social Sciences will welcome criminology and political science majors, as well as introduce a new School of Psychology!

To strengthen interdisciplinary collaboration and establish academic identity, this restructuring brings benefits to current and prospective students, as well as the broader campus community.

Join us this Wednesday, April 29, in Ingram Library for "Muscogee Ancestral Lands in West Georgia" — a meaningful exploration of the Muscogee (Creek) people's enduring connection to this land.

As the region marks 200 years since the forced removal of the Muscogee people, an upcoming event hosted by the University of West Georgia will center Indigenous voices and lived experiences, highlighting a history that is not only remembered, but is still unfolding.

Dr. Alzbeta Hajkova, Assistant Professor of Philosophy, recently completed her time as a Governor’s Teaching Fellow at the Louise McBee Institute of Higher Education, University of Georgia.

Dr. Hajkova used her time as a fellow to develop a new course for UWG students on Science, Technology, and Society, to be offered in Spring 2027. Stay tuned!

Last week, the UWG Sociology program welcomed Dr. Calvin John Smiley of CUNY Hunter College for the Sociology & Social Policy Distinguished Lecture!

Students, faculty, and other community members were deeply engaged as they learned about prisoner reentry and opportunities for changes in this field.
