Each spring at the University of West Georgia in Carrollton, Georgia, a low-cost and high-energy competitive computing event called a hackathon is offered to youth and adult competitors to design solutions to a community problem. Formerly the Facebook group page of uCode@UWG (2014-2016), this page will continue to serve as a place for announcing Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics, and Computing opportunities we hear about in the Carroll GA, Georgia region and nearby.

The next Hackathon: Coding for a Better Community will take place at UWG's campus in Carrollton on Saturday, March 11, 2023. The Youth Track is open to middle, junior high, and/or high school students, aged 13-18. No coding experience needed! Registration and more information are available at https://www.westga.edu/education/hackathon/. Early bird registration ends on January 29.

Registration is open for UWG's Hackathon for Teens: Coding for a Better Community! The Hackathon is a multidisciplinary challenge for kids 13-18 that makes use of their abilities to communicate, ideate, design, collaborate, and code.

The event takes place on Saturday, February 5, 2022, at the Carrollton campus of the University of West Georgia. Early bird registration is open through December 15!

Women and METROHACKS W and Microsoft Event

This is an exciting opportunity for girls 13-18 who are interested in STEM!

Women In Code: MetroHacks W is MetroHacks’s third 12 hour hackathon hosted at the Microsoft Offices in Alpharetta, GA devoted to bringing more female high school students into STEM fields. During the 12 hour event, students will learn about new technology in various workshops, collaborate and create projects with each other, and compete for prizes. Girls aged 13-18 can attend. The event is completely free, and meals are provided for all participants.

From what I see, adults can apply to be volunteers and mentors too (on the page at the end)!

When: September 21, 2019; 8 AM – 6 PM

Who: Girls ages 13-18 can attend and participate

Students entering grades 9-12 in the fall 2019 are invited to apply to participate in the University of West Georgia and Air Force Association (AFA) free UWG/AFA CyberCamp. CyberCamp will take place on the UWG campus July 22nd-26th, from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., Monday through Friday.

The camp is free to accepted participants, who must apply to the program by June 21.

Only 25 will be selected to participate in the camp, so those interested are encouraged to apply now!
