My goal is to create independent learners. I work with students of all ages across subject matters. I specialize in Math and Science. I am currently a Masters student of Biology at the University of West Georgia where I hold a Lead Tutor positions at the Center for Academic. In this position, I have undergone training programs focused on maximizing my effectiveness as a tutor. I meet regularly wit
h college students struggling in classes such as Chemistry, Physics, Biology, and Algebra. Student often struggle with concepts in math and science. In my educational career (from elementary school to a Master’s program in Biology) I have struggled with these very concepts and have emerged victorious. I am a guide for students who are currently struggling with course work and who need that extra level of engagement to realize their potential. In addition to working with students to understand school work that they find difficult, I offer strategies to develop healthy study habits and teach foundational methods of problem solving that can be used in any subject. Practicing these techniques and habits is crucial to becoming an independent learner and is the highest priority of my tutoring program. Together, we will identify problem areas, define goals, and tailor strategies to achieve those goals. There are hacks to make learning more efficient and memorable, born from experiments in psychology of learning and neuroscience, that are proven to enhance ones learning abilities. I will draw upon these practices to provide you with not only an understanding of material, but with tools to make learning easier in the future. I look forward to working with you, or your student, to realize their full potential and to make their success in school a reality. Shelby Phan
