🧠🍎 Future Educators: Growth Mindset in Action!

Our future educators were given this scenario:

A student receives a 58% on a test and says, “See, I told you I’m stupid at this.”

After recently learning about neuroplasticity, fixed vs. growth mindset, and multiple intelligences, students had to put that knowledge into practice by crafting a response they could actually use with a future student.

But there was a catch—they couldn’t simply say, “You’re not stupid!” or “You’ll do better next time!”

Their response had to give the student a path forward. They had to think like a teacher: acknowledge the student’s frustration, shift the focus from ability to growth, and provide a specific next step the student could take to improve.

It was a great reminder that a growth mindset isn’t just about telling students to “keep trying.” As educators, we have to help students understand how to move forward when something is difficult.

Our future teachers are learning that sometimes the most important part of teaching happens after a student struggles. 🍎📚

Junior Young Leaders enjoyed their first field trip of the year to the Hackett farm in Sanders. Students learned about operating a beef cattle farm as well as other careers in agriculture. Students even got to go through the cattle chute. A huge thank you to Terry Cauley who manages the farm, Pat Underwood from the CC Conservation District, Christin Herbst and Isaac DeSouza with the extension office, and Bill Lewis, Director of CC Community Development Corporation for making this such a valuable learning experience.
