Parents Running for School Governance Teams

Please share with people who have children in the Carrollton City Schools High School (CHS).
This week is the last week of elections for School Governance Teams.
The ballots from 8-4 and at CHS from July 26-Aug 12 from 8-4. Only parents of students in the school and staff may vote. There is a sign-in requirement for voting to validate.
Shonda Smith is running for School Governance Team for CHS.
The ballots will be available from August 8-12 at CES, CUES, and CJHS from 8-4 and at CHS from July 26-Aug 12 from 8-4. Only parents of students in the school and staff may vote. There is a sign-in requirement for voting to validate.
This is the blurb that Ms. Smith used for her nomination:

"My name is Shonda Smith and I live in Carrollton. I have three sons and two of them graduated from Carrollton High School. My youngest son will be a Freshman this year at Carrolton High School. I am a nurse and I have my Master’s Degree in Nursing Education I currently work for West Georgia Technical College as Program Manager for the Practical Nursing Program.
Prior to becoming a nurse, I worked for the Department of Family and Children Services, where I worked with children that have been abused and neglected. I love working with children and their families and love giving back to my community. I would love to work with the school system in any way to help improve the student’s and the school’s performance. I have been part of the community for quite some time, and I would like to continue to give back to the community.
Mi nombre es Shonda Smith y vivo en Carrollton. Tengo tres hijos y dos de ellos se graduaron de Carrollton High School. Mi hijo menor será estudiante de primer año (Freshman) este año en Carrolton High School. Soy enfermera y tengo mi Maestría en Educación de Enfermería y actualmente trabajo para West Georgia Technical College como Directora del Programa de Enfermería Práctica.
Antes de ser enfermera, trabajé para el Departamento de Servicios para Familias y Niños, donde trabajé con niños que han sido abusados y descuidados. Me encanta trabajar con niños y sus familias y me encanta retribuir a mi comunidad. Me encantaría trabajar con el sistema escolar de cualquier manera para ayudar a mejorar el rendimiento de los estudiantes y de la escuela. Me gustaría seguir dando a esta comunidad de la que he sido parte por un buen tiempo."

My name is Susana Velez-Castrillon and I am the mother of Gabriel Forero (rising 2nd grader) and Elena Forero (Rising 5th grader). Although my parents started but did not finish college, I am now an Associate Professor of Business at UWG. Education has made all the difference in my life, and I want the same opportunities for all children.

Go to the CJHS front office until Sept 4 and ask for the SGT ballot.
We support Betsy Dahms.
Dr. Betsy Dahms is an Associate Professor of Spanish with a certificate in Gender and Women's Studies at the University of West Georgia. Dr. Dahms has children at CUES, CJHS and CHS and wants to serve on the SGT at Carrollton Junior High because they believe in the power of education to transform lives.

This week parents choose the new members of the Carrollton City schools SGTs (Governance teams) please consider:

The SGTs shape the priorities for funds spending and curriculum emphasis, among other consequential actions affecting all students. We strongly believe in opportunities for all children.

Lara Willox is running for CES Student Governance Team.

Lara Willox is faculty at the University of West Georgia and has kids in kindergarten, first, second, and sixth grade. Lara is interested in creating connections between the needs of the students, the parents, and the school to help enact the vision of working together as one community.
