The Center's last corn trial was harvested this afternoon. An article summarizing long-term data from this fertilizer study will be in our 2023 annual report, which will be available late December.

The CREC's 2023 dry bean variety trial data are available on the web: https://www.ag.ndsu.edu/varietytrials/variety-trial-results.
The six trials include: dryland, irrigated, Oakes (3 irrigated trials) and Wishek.
In addition, a data table has been developed that summarizes visual evaluation of direct harvest of selected pinto bean varieties.

The following is an overview of results from the Carrington REC's 2023 dryland spring wheat variety trial:
• 57 varieties tested. Trial averages: 68.8 bu/A (range: 53.3-84.9 bu/A), 59.3 lb/bu, and 15.0% protein. Three-year yield average among 34 varieties: 60.1 bu/A (range of 52.8-66.3 bu/A); Yields greater than 63.5 bu/A: AAC Starbuck, CAG Justify, Driver, MS Ranchero, ND Frohberg and TCG Spitfire.

As part of the regional sunflower field survey conducted by NDSU Extension and the National Sunflower Association, 28 south-central ND fields among 12 counties were surveyed during September 14-28. Calculated seed yield average among fields was 2155 lb/acre, with a range of 650 to 3340 lb/acre.

We conducted our annual Row Crop tour yesterday afternoon and evening. NDSU crop scientists and ag industry speakers provided corn, soybean and dry bean production research and recommendation updates. Thanks to the ND Corn Utilization Council, ND Soybean Council and Northarvest Bean Growers Association for supporting the event. Program booklets are available by contacting the CREC.

Please join us for our annual row crop field tour on Thursday, Aug. 31. Registration begins at 4 p.m. with educational exhibits and refreshments. The tour begins promptly at 4:30 and includes:
• Status of region’s corn and soybean, and end-of-season management considerations
• Dry bean variety performance
• Rhizobia bacteria for nitrogen production with soybean and dry bean
• White mold management in soybean and dry bean
• Cover crop management in soybean and dry bean
A supper sponsored by North Dakota commodity organizations will follow the tour. Continuing education credits will be available for CCAs participating in the event.

Crop Management Field School - 45 crop advisers

The school’s objective is to provide updates, using field demonstrations and research trials, on crop pest and soil management recommendations.

The CREC hosted the ND W**d Control Association's Sprayer School yesterday. As part of the training, participants viewed noxious w**d entries in our w**d arboretum and received w**d identification and biology facts.

Corn trials are rapidly emerging at the CREC. Dryland hybrid performance trials planted May 12 emerged in 10 days. A corn fertilizer trial planted on May 18 should start emerging today, based on growing degree day units (about 125 units required for VE stage).
