NDSU Carrington Research Extension Center The Carrington REC is one of 7 out-state RECs, part of NDSU's Ag Experiment Station.

The Carrington Research Extension Center is a department within NDSU’s Agriculture Experiment Station. The CREC research and extension programs are diverse as they are responsible for providing research based information for both the crop and livestock sectors of the state’s agricultural economy. The major programs of the CREC include Agronomy, Beef, Soils, Plant Pathology, Nutrient Management, No

rthern Hardy Fruit and Foundation Seedstocks. The CREC staff is primarily responsible for the diversity of research and educational projects based from the Center. However, extensive collaborations with Experiment Station and Extension Service project leaders from across NDSU Agriculture are integrated with many CREC projects. Is there anyone in the Carrington area who wants some pears? Asking because one of the varieties at CREC is ripe! This is 'Stacey'. We have been snacking on it here but there's a lot.

Farmers, crop advisers and agricultural industry representatives are invited to view field research trials and receive production recommendations on soybean, dry bean, corn, and sunflower during the Carrington REC annual row crop field tour. Last week the Oakes Irrigation Research site hosted their Field Day.

The day featured talks on canola production and marketing, corn and soybean disease updates and nitrogen management strategies.

A ribbon-cutting ceremony was also held for the new shop building, which includes office and laboratory space designed to support scientists as they conduct and advance their research.

Thank you to all who made the day a huge success!

Tomorrow down at the Oakes Irrigation Research Site!

The tour starts at 9 a.m. with free morning refreshments.

Speakers and topics for the field day are the following:

-Corn disease ID and when management is needed
-What happens to nitrogen over the winter?
-Staying three steps ahead of soybean diseases
-Canola production
-Canola flea beetle update
-Canola updates

A ribbon-cutting for the new offices, laboratories and conference room will follow the morning tour.

In the afternoon, two more topics will be discussed:

-Waterhemp management in corn and soybean
-Canola production

A free lunch for attendees – sponsored by General Irrigation and Dewatering, Starion Bank, Hoffman Irrigation, BankNorth, Northern Canola Growers Association and InVigor – will be served.
