Yesterday evening, while we’re here in Kentucky for the Othering & Belonging Conference, we got to celebrate, connect, and enjoy a special gathering at the Muhammad Ali Center—and we had such a great time! 🥊✨

It was amazing to move through the different floors and experience so much of Muhammad Ali’s life and legacy. We learned about his journey from Cassius Clay to Muhammad Ali, watched powerful videos, and got to try some of the interactive exhibits—including stepping into a boxing ring and testing our punch! And yes, there’s even a car inside the museum.

A wonderful evening of history, connection, and celebration. So glad we got to experience it together. 💛

Day 2 at the O&B Conference: Belonging Is a Story We Write Together. 💚

Today’s conversations asked us to consider who belongs and how we build belonging without othering.

Crystal Wilkinson reminded us that presence matters: even a greeting can become an invitation to truly connect. Annette Saunooke Clapsaddle brought a Cherokee perspective to imagining the next 250 years and urged us to listen to young people’s ideas. Silas House shared how the strong women and storytellers in his Appalachian family taught him to resist stereotypes and honor complexity. Jess Mullins Fullen joined them in a conversation about storytelling, community, and whose stories get told.

John A. Powell put belonging plainly: you matter, you have a voice, and you get to help shape what you belong to. That reminded us that belonging has to include safety, dignity, and the ability to show up as yourself.

We’re not leaving yet. We’re carrying this with us: our stories shape one another. We grow our worlds by listening across differences, making room for people’s voices, and creating real belonging with young people and our communities.

Thank you to Frances, Ayah, Sophie, and Soteria for taking on this role. And thank you to Tyler, Coley, and all of our staff and interns for showing up for our young people and making it possible for us to be here.

Yesterday, we had an amazing staff meeting with two of our Master of Social Work students from the University of Denver! We celebrated the progress our young people are making and talked about our hopes for Grow Your World’s future.

One theme came through loud and clear: our staff and interns want to see the organization expand and keep growing. We also reflected on the depth of care our mentor-tutors bring to their work and how Tutoring After 6 PM continues to flourish through our university partnerships.

Thank you to UNC-Chapel Hill, Emory, Elon, SCAD, Morehouse, NC State, Wake Tech, and all of our community partners who refer students to us for academic support and care for the whole person.

And a huge thank-you to Francis, Morgan, Coley, Jordan, Ayah, and Sophie for all the hard work, care, and innovative ideas you bring to this work. We’re grateful to keep growing together! 💜🌍

Celebrating Community at Esperanza 2026 🌎

What a beautiful celebration of Latino culture and community! From delicious food, music, and dancing to handcrafted jewelry and local vendors, Esperanza was filled with joy and connection.

Frances and Jordan proudly represented Grow Your World, sharing Tutoring After 6 PM, our virtual tutoring and mentorship program for youth.

Our message to families was simple: language should never be a barrier to receiving support. Families can connect with us in English or Spanish, ask questions, and explore resources for their youth.

Thank you for every conversation, every warm welcome, and every new connection. We’re excited to keep building these relationships. Grow Your World has your back! 💛

Congratulations to Echo on winning the grand prize, and thank you to Compass Center for sharing the impact of your work. We went home with $500, and we’re so grateful for the support.

A special shout-out to Alissa, our Grow Your World student ambassador, who gave her first speech! She did such a great job. Thank you to her family for coming out to support her. We can’t wait to see what’s next for Alissa! ✨

Today, we’re taking the energy from rehearsal straight to the stage!

We’re EXTRA excited because during last night’s ATL Hip Hop Day rehearsal, TWO young artists, Ariel on the Beat and Beemeer, earned performance spots at the Music Industry Media Mixer! 🙌🏾🔥

They came to rehearse for the ATL Hip Hop Day Festival in December and walked out with an opportunity to perform the next day.
