Summer school fun! Students from across Naperville loved learning about 🍕 pizza 🍕 ingredients with Kristina. After the lesson, each student made a pizza themed "garden in a glove" to take home.

This summer, we will be highlighting the incredible volunteers who give their time, talents and energy to support the DuPage County Farm Bureau! Starting off is Hieu Tran who has been involved with the DuPage County Farm Bureau for over 25 years! Thank you for all the work you do to help support the DuPage County Farm Bureau’s mission.

June 11th is National Corn on the Cob Day!

Sweet corn has many wonderful nutritional benefits! Whether grilled, steamed, or oven roasted, add some corn on the cob to your plate this summer!

Each year the DCFB Foundation awards $250 grants to local teachers for the implementation of a classroom agriculture project. These teachers go above and beyond to make their classroom experience exciting and memorable. Check out what their students have been learning this year!

Teacher Grant Winner #1: Austin Chu from G. Stanley Hall Elementary

Austin used his grant funding to purchase a HotBin compost bin, which allowed his students to demonstrate composting in a simple and effective way. His 3rd-5th grade students learned to separate organic waste, learned about decomposition, and observed how food scraps and yard waste transform into nutrient-rich compost for the school garden. Over the weeks, students participated in collecting food scraps from classrooms and the cafeteria, adding the right mix of “greens” and “browns”, and maintaining the compost’s moisture and aeration. They monitored the compost’s progress and deepened their understanding of the natural cycle. By the end of the project, the students had a clear understanding of the composting process and why it matters.

June is National Dairy Month! Did you know Illinois has around 370 dairy farms that work to provide nearly 1.7 billion pounds of milk each year and almost 40,000 jobs through production and processing?

Thank you, 4imprint, for donating 8,250 reusable cups! Thanks to your generosity, students had the supplies needed to participate in this year’s hands-on tomato transplanting activity. We appreciate your support in helping students learn where their food comes from through engaging agricultural experiences!
