There's still one more day of the busy Spring Break week. We started the week with a rattlesnake, and today we saw a swimming garter snake. We saved thousands of western toad tadpoles whose puddle was smaller than a bathtub, and we taught a family from the Bay Area how to use a ferro rod to start a fire. We have had hot days in the sun, cool days in the rain, and we still have one more day to go! I wonder what tomorrow will bring!

I've been keeping a nature journal, with only a few actual pictures, for many, many years. I'm upping my game now and taking a class on how to teach nature journaling, and I'm diligently working on improving my field sketching. I plan to start offering kids classes in the fall. Jack is the main teacher behind my class, and is truly inspirational. He holds a unique perspective.

I am decidedly a cold wet weather person by nature. But there are some up sides to the warmer dryer weather.
Spending my days standing in the river might be at the top of the list. People talk about grounding by walking barefoot, what is it called when you stand in the river barefoot for long periods?

Not the best photos, but you can see the flower in February, and the fruit today! So exciting to watch friends grow through their seasons.

Dear parents of public school children. If the teachers of your school are on strike and you would rather have your child elsewhere while it gets sorted, we are at the river most days and are happy to have your children with us. We hade a child from Twin Rivers with us today, and we had so much fun.

I was just reading about Ash baskets in the book Braiding Sweetgrass, which is a sacred book to me.
I think I need to go to this workshop, hope to see you there
