What’s being read at Arlington Elementary School this week? 📚

Kindergarten students gathered in the library for a reading of “This Book Just Ate My Dog!” — a playful story about a little girl whose dog mysteriously disappears into the middle of the book’s pages! 🐶

Beyond the fun of seeing what happens next, time in the library gives students opportunities to build their literacy skills, discover new stories and ideas, and grow their curiosity and imagination.

Experiences like these are part of how San Juan Unified provides students with rich learning opportunities that encourage them to read, learn, explore and build a lifelong love of learning. ❤️📖

Kicking off a new era at San Juan High School! 🏈✨

Friday night lights took on a new meaning at San Juan as students, families, staff and community members gathered for the first football game in the school’s newly modernized stadium.

The modernized stadium features a new synthetic all-weather track and field, an updated scoreboard, two new tennis courts, upgraded restrooms, a new ticket booth and concession area, enhanced security features, ADA-compliant walkways and more.

San Juan Unified is proud to invest in modern, welcoming spaces that support student success while creating new opportunities for connection, celebration and community.

¡Comienza una nueva etapa en San Juan High School! 🏈✨

This summer, new fencing was installed around James Cowan Fundamental Elementary School and Green Oaks Fundamental Elementary School to enhance campus security and create a more secure environment for students and staff.

Projects like these are an important part of San Juan Unified’s ongoing commitment to maintaining safe, welcoming campuses where students and staff can feel comfortable, supported and ready to learn.

Demolition has begun in the science wing at San Juan High School! 🚧🔬

These spaces will soon be transformed into updated, innovative classrooms designed to support hands-on learning, collaboration and student success.

The completed project will include:
➡️ Two chemistry classrooms
➡️ Three life science classrooms
➡️ Two additional classrooms
➡️ Maker’s space
➡️ Teacher prep space
➡️ Family resource center
➡️ Modernized restrooms
➡️ Small courtyard

New furniture has also been added across the campus, further enhancing the learning environment for students and staff.

Together, these improvements reflect San Juan Unified’s commitment to creating modern, engaging learning environments that support collaboration and student success for years to come.

Educators from across San Juan Unified came together for the first Monthly Math Meet Up of the year to explore math together, share ideas and connect around teaching strategies that support student learning.

Opportunities like these give our staff dedicated time to learn from one another, collaborate across schools and grow together in support of our students. ✏️

A new school year brings new students and new teachers! ⭐✏️

Our newest K-8 English Language Development (ELD) teachers spent a day preparing to support our English learners.

Guided by veteran ELD teachers, the new teachers planned for their first year through a workshop that featured curriculum information, English Language Advisory Committee (ELAC) requirements, best practices for communicating with classroom teachers and collaborating with bilingual instructional assistants (BIAs). Altogether, the teachers enthusiastically left the workshop with many resources and a network of teachers to collaborate with.

San Juan Unified is proud to offer staff collaborative opportunities and dedicated mentorships that support our staff’s professional growth.

¡Un nuevo año escolar trae nuevos alumnos y nuevos maestros! ⭐✏️

Nuestros nuevos maestros de Desarrollo del Idioma Inglés (ELD) de K-8 dedicaron un día a prepararse para apoyar a los estudiantes que están aprendiendo inglés.

Guiados por maestros veteranos de ELD, los nuevos docentes planificaron su primer año en un taller que incluyó información sobre el plan de estudios, los requisitos del Comité Asesor de Padres de Aprendices de Inglés (ELAC), las mejores prácticas para comunicarse con otros maestros y colaborar con los asistentes educativos bilingües (BIA). En general, los maestros salieron del taller con mucho entusiasmo, con numerosos recursos y una red de colegas con quienes colaborar.
