๐ŸŒŸ CMP Alumni Spotlight: Where Are They Now? ๐ŸŒŸ

Weโ€™re excited to start highlighting the incredible accomplishments and journeys of our CMP alumni! We know our former students are doing amazing things, and we want to celebrate where their paths have taken them.

Weโ€™re kicking off our CMP Alumni Spotlight with Maria Sgromo, a former student at our Capitol Campus!

Maria recently worked in the art department at LAIKA Studios on its newest stop-motion animated film, Wildwood, coming to theaters this October. Maria helped design sets for the film, bringing her creativity, artistry, collaboration, and attention to detail to this incredible production. Check out the official trailer here ---> https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gZy36NLObaU

Congratulations, Maria! We are so proud to see a CMP alum using her talents and creativity in such an exciting way, and we canโ€™t wait to see her work on the big screen! ๐ŸŽฅโœจ

Are you a CMP alumโ€”or do you have a CMP alum in your family? We want to hear from you! Whether itโ€™s college, a career, service, the arts, athletics, entrepreneurship, or another exciting chapter, weโ€™d love to know where your journey has taken you.

๐Ÿ“ฉ Send your alumni updates, accomplishments, and photos to [email protected] for a chance to be featured in a future CMP Alumni Spotlight!

As students head back to school, Spare The Air California encourages families to build simple, everyday habits that help improve air quality and create healthier communities.

Here are a few simple ways your family can help improve air quality this school year:

๐Ÿš— Carpool with friends or neighbors when possible.
๐Ÿ›๏ธ Combine errands to reduce extra trips.
๐ŸšŒ Ride the bus or use public transportation when you can.
๐Ÿ’ก Turn off lights and electronics before leaving home to save energy.

Small actions add up! By making just one simple change, we can all help create cleaner air and healthier communities for our children.

๐ŸŽ This Week, Weโ€™re All Back! ๐Ÿ“šโœจ

This week, our campuses came back to life as our teachers, instructional assistants, special education specialists, and support staff returned to campusโ€”reconnecting, collaborating, learning, and preparing for a new school year!

Thereโ€™s been so much energy and excitement across our campuses as our teams work together to make sure classrooms and learning environments are ready for our students. We are incredibly grateful for the dedication, care, and heart our staff brings to this work.

Now, weโ€™re just missing the most important partโ€ฆ our students! ๐ŸŽ‰

We canโ€™t wait to welcome them back to campus and begin another incredible year of learning, growth, and connection. See you soon! ๐Ÿซโœ๏ธ๐Ÿ“š

โœจ A warm welcome back to our amazing Instructional Aides! โœจ

Last week, we were excited to welcome our Instructional Aides back to campus as we kicked off the new school year with training, collaboration, and learning.

Instructional Aides play an incredible role in our school community. They support our students, partner with our teachers, and help create classrooms where every child can learn, grow, and thrive. Their dedication, compassion, and hard work make a meaningful difference every single day.

As we prepare to welcome students back, we're grateful for the opportunity to invest in our team through professional learning that equips them with the tools, strategies, and confidence to provide the very best support for our classrooms and campus.

๐Ÿ’™ One reflection from our time together captured the day perfectly.

"Even just having access to this information makes me feel more prepared and confident, which I am sure will help me become a prepared member of the team."

We're excited to see our Instructional Aides put their learning into action as we kick off the school year on August 12th. We can't wait to welcome our students back for an amazing year of learning and growth!

๐ŸŽ’โœจ The countdown to the new school year is on- T-minus 10 days! How are you and your child getting ready?

Preparing for a new school year can be exciting when children are part of the process.

Here are a few fun ways to prepare together:
๐ŸŽ’ Let them pick out their backpack or lunchbox.
โœ๏ธ Organize school supplies as a team.
๐Ÿ“š Create a special reading or homework space at home.
๐ŸŒŸ Talk about what they're most excited to learn and the goals they have for the new school year.

CMP believes children thrive when they have ownership of their learning journey. Including them in these simple preparations helps them walk into the classroom feeling confident, capable, and ready for a wonderful year.

๐Ÿ’™ What's one back-to-school tradition your family hasโ€”or what's your child most excited about this year? Share in the comments below! ๐Ÿ‘‡๐ŸŽ

Big things are happening at our Capitol campus!

Every campus has its own personality... and Capitol's just happens to include a very special four-legged neighbor! ๐Ÿˆ๐Ÿ’™

Our construction partners captured a fun glimpse of the neighborhood surrounding our campus, including a familiar feline friend who has become a beloved part of the area.

While exciting work continues behind the scenes, we couldn't resist sharing this lighthearted moment.

๐Ÿ“š As summer break begins to wind down, now is the perfect time to start easing back into school routines!

A gradual transition can help children feel confident, calm, and ready for a successful start to the school year. Over the next few weeks, try:
๐ŸŒ… Adjusting bedtimes a little earlier each night
โฐ Practicing morning routines
๐Ÿ“– Setting aside time each day for reading or other quiet activities

Transitions are an important part of a child's journey. Consistent routines at home help children feel safe, secure, and ready to embrace new learning experiences.

โœจ We'd love to hear from you! What's one back-to-school tradition or routine your family looks forward to each year? Share it in the comments below! ๐Ÿ‘‡

The California Montessori Project community honors the extraordinary life and legacy of Sonnie McFarland: a teacher, mentor, author, and champion for children whose influence will continue to guide generations of Montessori educators.

Sonnie's book, Honoring the Light of the Child, has served as an inspiration in shaping our own Peace Education work across the California Montessori Project. Through her writing and her example, she reminded us that every child carries an inner light, a unique spirit worthy of dignity, respect, and unconditional belief. Our role as a community is not to shape that light, but to recognize it, nurture it, and protect it.

Her message of leading with love and light is woven into the fabric of Montessori education and continues to guide our classrooms, our relationships, and our purpose. In every prepared environment, every peaceful conflict resolution, every moment we choose grace over judgment and connection over control, we honor the vision Sonnie so passionately shared.

In a world that can often feel divided, her work reminds us that peace is not simply something we teach; it is something we live. It begins with how we see each child and grows through the communities we build together.

As Maria Montessori wrote, "Establishing lasting peace is the work of education." Sonnie McFarland devoted her life to that work, and we are profoundly grateful for the legacy she leaves behind.

Thank you, Sonnie, for reminding us to always honor the light of the childโ€”and in doing so, to bring more love, more light, and more peace into the world.

๐Ÿค With gratitude,
California Montessori Project

โ˜€๏ธ As we head into the final weeks of summer break, we're reminded of the importance of balance.

Summer gives children the opportunity to slow down, explore, create, and simply enjoy being kids. Unstructured play, meaningful family time, and moments of rest are all essential parts of healthy growth and development.

As you soak up these last weeks of summer, embrace the balance. Give your child the space and time to discover, imagine, and grow at their own pace. These experiences help build the confidence, curiosity, and independence that will serve them well in the year ahead.

Here's to making the most of the rest of summer! ๐Ÿ’™๐ŸŒฟ
