Today, we honor Indigenous Peoples’ Day by celebrating the histories, cultures, and ongoing contributions of Indigenous peoples. 🧡

At California Montessori Project, we encourage our students to approach learning with curiosity and respect. This day offers an opportunity to learn about the Indigenous communities whose ancestral homelands we live and learn on, listen to Indigenous voices, and recognize the many distinct traditions and experiences of Native peoples.

Together, we can deepen our understanding and help build a community that values every person’s story.

🥈 Congratulations to the CMP - Shingle Springs PBIS team for earning a Silver award for Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS)! 👏

One of the campus’s proudest accomplishments is the growth of SOAR, their student leadership team, over the years. These student leaders are helping build a school community where kindness and respect shine. 💛

Most recently, SOAR introduced a kindness pledge, inviting students to commit to creating a peaceful and kind school environment. It’s a wonderful example of students taking an active role in shaping their campus community!

🏆🌊 CMP - Carmichael is making waves! Congratulations to our Carmichael PBIS team for earning a Gold award for Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS) this year! This recognition celebrates their commitment to creating a positive, supportive school community.

Fun fact: Carmichael has a SURF nominations box where students and staff can nominate one another for “SURFing”—recognizing the amazing qualities and positive actions they see around campus! 💛

Each month, nominations are drawn and read at the school assembly. Any nominations that aren’t drawn are delivered to the nominated student or staff member, so everyone has the chance to reflect on being noticed and appreciated.

Congratulations, Carmichael! 👏 Stay tuned to learn how other CMP campuses are supporting our PBIS efforts and celebrating positive behavior across our network!

This week, our Montessori Instruction and Innovation directors, Dr. Melanie Brown and Katey Dodd welcomed Antoinette Cass, Director of Autonomy and Innovation with the Office of Innovative School Models at Los Angeles Unified School District.

Katey and Melanie gave Ms. Cass a tour of three of our CMP campuses. We loved the opportunity to share what public Montessori looks like in action across our classrooms!

We are grateful for our continued collaboration with Montessori educators across California as we work to strengthen public Montessori and expand access to high-quality Montessori education for all students.

We’re excited to see California Montessori Project featured in the Montessori Sports newsletter! 🌟

Nine of our physical education teachers from six CMP campuses have begun a Montessori Sports training course with Stephanie Pullman in Sacramento.

Together, they’ll explore how Montessori principles can shape sport, movement, and physical education while sharing ideas across campuses.

We look forward to seeing what they learn and how they bring it to our students. Thank you to our PE teachers for continuing to grow together! 💙

🏫✨ Board Meeting Highlights!

At last week's CMP Governing Board meeting, we had the opportunity to share updates on Network operations and safety initiatives and highlight some of the great work happening across our organization.

💙 This month, we were especially excited to shine a spotlight on our Shingle Springs Campus! The presentation celebrated many of the things that make this community special, including:

🌟 Amazing students and staff
🥈 Silver PBIS recognition
🏫 Continued facility improvements
🎤 Growing student leadership opportunities
🏐 A robust and engaging athletics program

We are proud of the continued growth at Shingle Springs and grateful for the students, staff, families, and community members who contribute to making the campus such a vibrant place to learn and grow.

At California Montessori Project, peace is more than something we celebrate—it is something we practice.

Peace education is deeply rooted in Montessori philosophy, encouraging children to develop respect, empathy, compassion, independence, and a sense of responsibility to their community and the world around them.

As we recognize the International Day of Peace, we celebrate the many ways our students and staff work each day to build peaceful classroom communities—through kindness, understanding, collaboration, and respect for one another.

As Maria Montessori reminded us, “Establishing lasting peace is the work of education.” 🕊️

🌱 Reflect. Collaborate. Level Up.

As part of a full day of professional development, our Tier 1 staff members and teachers came together for meaningful reflection and collaboration around our PBIS systems and practices.

A key focus of the day was examining how our current approaches align with our constructivist, Montessori pedagogy—identifying what supports our values and practices, where we can improve, and what we may need to let go.

Our goal is to continue to “level up” our practice by being intentional about the systems we use to support students. Rather than simply implementing practices because they are part of a framework, we are asking important questions: Does this align with who we are? Does it support the whole child? Does it honor the Montessori approach to independence, community, responsibility, and respect?

We are excited to continue this work together as we strengthen practices that are authentically CMP and Montessori-aligned. 🌿

We are grateful for the many contributions of our Hispanic community and proud to celebrate our amazing Hispanic staff, students, and families. 💙 Together, you make our school community stronger, richer, and more vibrant every day!

You can celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month in the Sacramento area by attending local cultural festivals, live music performances, and community art events throughout September and October 2026.

Today, our CMP community remembers. 🕯️

On this day in 2001, our nation experienced a tragedy that changed countless lives. As a school community, we honor the memory of those lost, the first responders who bravely ran toward danger to help others, and the spirit of unity and resilience that emerged in the aftermath.

We believe it's important for our students to understand history and to learn the values of compassion and community that came from that day. Just as we teach our children to care for one another, let us model compassion through purposeful action.

Peaceful acts of service:
🔴Share kindness with neighbors
🔴Prepare food for those in need
🔴Care for our environment together
🔴Express gratitude to our teachers, school admin, and community supporters
🔴Create beauty in shared spaces
