Practical life skills remain a cornerstone of the Montessori approach—even during summer break.

Inviting your child to participate in daily routines like folding laundry, preparing snacks, watering plants, or setting the table fosters independence and a strong sense of contribution. 🏡

At California Montessori Project, we see how these experiences build confidence and self-reliance—skills that support children both in and out of the classroom.

🌟 We were honored to have Clara and Cecilia Martins join us at the recent Buckeye Union School District Board Meeting for our quarterly campus update! 🏫

As proud CMP graduates, both sisters spoke about how their Montessori education helped prepare them for success in high school. From 🏀 Sports and 🎭 Drama to 🐝 Spelling Bee, 🚀 Student Leadership, and ➗ Advanced Math, they embraced so many opportunities during their time at CMP Shingle Springs.

Their reflections were thoughtful, inspiring, and a wonderful example of the Portrait of a CMP Learner. 💙 The Board was incredibly impressed—and so are we!

👏 Congratulations, Clara and Cecilia! Thank you for representing CMP so well.

Nature continues to be one of the most powerful classrooms we can offer our children 🌿

Whether it’s a neighborhood walk, a visit to a local park, or time spent gardening together, these experiences invite observation, wonder, and respect for the environment.

At California Montessori Project, we value these moments of discovery. Encouraging your child to notice details—textures, patterns, living things—helps cultivate curiosity and a lifelong connection to the natural world.

With the wrap-up of the first official week of Summer break, many families ask:
“How can we support Montessori at home?” ☀️🌱

The good news—you don’t need to recreate the classroom. Small, meaningful shifts make a big impact.

Here are a few simple ways to support your child’s independence this summer:
🌿 Involve them in real life
Cooking, gardening, cleaning, organizing—these are all meaningful “work.”
👕 Encourage independence
Let them dress themselves, prepare snacks, and solve small problems (even if it takes longer).
📚 Follow their interests
Trips to the library, nature walks, or deep dives into a favorite topic keep curiosity alive.
⏳ Protect time for concentration
Unstructured, screen-free time allows children to focus, create, and explore.
💛 Step back when possible
Sometimes the best support is giving children space to try, struggle, and succeed on their own.

Montessori isn’t just something that happens in the classroom—it’s a way of seeing children as capable, curious, and ready to participate in the world.
And summer is the perfect time to nurture that. 🌞
