Celebrate 25 years of research, education and impact at the Nancy M. Cummings Research, Extension and Education Center!

Join and on Tuesday, Sept. 15, in Carmen to celebrate the 25th anniversary of NMCREEC. For a quarter century, the center has served as the University of Idaho’s primary cow-calf and forage research center, providing critical research for Idaho’s livestock industry and continuing education for the state.

The celebration will feature a provided luncheon, tours, posters and honored speakers.

Congratulations to Dr. John Hall on receiving the Beef Improvement Federation Continuing Service Award!

Congratulations to John Hall, professor and Extension specialist in beef cattle and lead at Rinker Rock Creek Ranch, on receiving the Beef Improvement Federation Continuing Service Award!
The award recognizes Hall's decades of contributions to the beef industry. Throughout his career, Hall has helped advance beef reproduction, genetics and herd improvement while connecting producers with research-based practices that strengthen their operations.
Benton Glaze (pictured), beef specialist, spoke about Hall's accomplishments during the award presentation.

WE ARE HIRING!!

Position Description: General Farm/Ranch labor

Hours per Week: 40 hours per week. Work includes weekend rotation with other ranch hands. May be required to work more than 40 hours per week when necessary. Overtime eligible and after 5 months the employee may qualify for leave and to participate in PERSI, the Idaho state-employee retirement program. Entry level pay is $15.00 but may negotiate higher depending on skills, abilities, and work experience.

Position Type: Seasonal summer through January 1st with opportunity for full-time work.

Essential Functions: Primary job function involves general ranch chores and assisting with irrigation which may include monitoring and moving irrigation K-lines, hand lines, wheel lines and pivots. Position requires manual labor using hand tools/equipment and operating a variety of farm equipment to irrigate a variety of crops and grass pastures. Other duties may include building and repair fences; daily health checks on cattle; assisting with feeding and moving cattle; haul dirt or hay using heavy equipment; load/unload trucks and other equipment; and operating hand and power tools for w**d control or landscaping.

Requirements: Knowledge of a variety of farm labor and maintenance tasks including irrigation, equipment operation, basic construction and standard safety practices. Ability to record and provide basic accounting for trucks or equipment. Ability to operate a wide range of farm equipment and hand and power tools; work outdoors in adverse conditions for extended periods of time; establish effective working relationships with coworkers and managers; understand and follow verbal and written instructions; assume responsibility for department safety standards; ability to lift or move objects weighing up to 80 pounds.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS: Willingness and ability to work outside in all weather conditions and to work regular hours. All applicants must successfully complete and pass a background and driving record check.

Congratulations, Dr. Melinda Ellison !!

Congratulations to Specialist Melinda Ellison for being selected to receive the 2026 Young Scientist Award from the Western Section of the American Society of Animal Science.
Ellison will be honored June 4 during the organization's annual meeting in Estes Park, Colorado.
