The June issue of Uniquely You Indy is here. 🎉
This month, we celebrate powerful stories of advocacy, inclusion, resilience, and community connection. From AJ Witherspoon’s inspiring journey to local organizations creating meaningful change, every page reminds us that no one walks alone. 💜
We are honored to continue uplifting voices across Indiana’s disability community and sharing stories that matter. 💫
Grab your June issue today and help us celebrate the families, advocates, caregivers, and changemakers making an impact every day. 📖

This is a very interesting post!

Sensory needs are NEEDS! They are not rewards or incentives.
Would you allow access to a wheelchair, as a reward to someone with physical mobility challenges?
We must stop weaponizing human needs!

My brother Brett is autistic and blind. He cannot easily tell me what his world feels like, but over the years, watching him and loving him, I have tried to imagine it. This is my attempt to see life through his eyes. I hope it speaks to your heart the way Brett has spoken to mine.
Through My Eyes
My eyes, they cannot see
The words
I do not have
Please love me for me
The good with the bad
Sometimes, I make you cry
When you know not what to do
Please don't leave me alone
My whole world lies with you
Since my eyes,
They do not work
Through your warmth
I can see
When you are not around
The world seems so dark to me
I get scared
And want to cry out
But the words, they just don't come
When I need you the most
I know with violence, you'll come
I may hit, scream and pinch
Because I know not what to do
I don't have the words
To say: "I'm needing you."
Please don't give up on me
Or as a human
Think I'm less
God gave you me
Need there be explanation for the rest?
People think my world is small:
I rock, I laugh, I listen
But the world that I live in is:
Dependable
Safe
Efficient
I don't strive for adventure
For I fear the unknown
When instability surrounds me
I cry to be taken home
All I want in life is love
Whatever that word truly means
Words are just sounds
When paired, develop meaning
I love my two pillows
I love my ball
I love to swing
I love the people in my life
Who will never give up on me
Life, it is hard
I know, because I live it
I struggle everyday to live in a world
Where communication
Is non-existent
I can't tell you when I'm sick
When I'm hurt
When I'm sad
All too often, I am silent
Because my frustration
Makes you mad
Please don't abandon me
For I need you more now,
Than ever
I am big, tall and strong
You knew my cuteness
Wouldn't last forever
I live in a world of darkness
But it doesn't sadden me
As long as I know you won't leave me
Through your warmth, I'll always see
