Congratulations to the University High School Academic Team on an outstanding performance at the Long Island Quiz Bowl Association National Championships Midwest Regional! 🏆
Competing against some of the top teams in the country, the Trailblazer varsity team finished with a 6-2 record and advanced to the final four of the double-elimination tournament before earning a third-place finish overall. Their only losses came to Carmel High School, which finished second, and Trinity High School of Louisville, the regional champion.
The JV team posted a 3-5 record while competing exclusively against varsity teams—and defeated three teams that qualified for the national tournament. The team also claimed the JV tournament title!
Individual honors went to Jeffrey Kirkendall, Allesandro Salerno, Keith Deng, and George Lynch, who all finished among the top 10 individual scorers in the competition.

🎓 Congratulations, Class of 2026! 🎓
On Saturday, the University community gathered at the Palladium to celebrate the graduation of the Class of 2026.
The ceremony featured reflections from student speakers Vidhatri Iyer, Kothe Birge, and Lindsey Porter; remarks from Head of School Alicia LaMagdeleine and faculty member Tom FitzGibbon; beautiful performances by our student musicians; and a reading of A Map of the Unfinished by Anya Hicks.
Adding to the excitement of the day, seven seniors from the varsity baseball team arrived just in time for commencement after helping secure University’s 2A Sectional Championship earlier that morning. Fresh off the field and a championship victory, they joined their classmates for a celebration that marked both an unforgettable day for the program and the culmination of their time at University High School.

From sourcing leather at historic Landwerlen Leather Company to cutting patterns, punching holes, installing rivets, and assembling each piece by hand, students in Tasha Barger’s Wearable Design class are wrapping up one of their biggest projects of the semester: handmade sneakers. 👟
After a trip downtown to select their own leather, students brought their designs to life through every step of the process, learning the craftsmanship and attention to detail behind creating a custom pair of shoes from scratch.

Read more about former University English teacher Manuela Pizzi's new venture, Balena Cucina Italiana!
For Manuela Pizzi, this year’s launch of her northside restaurant Balena Cucina Italiana seems less like a debut and more like a revival. She grew up at the center of the city’s Italian restaurant scene—specifically in the cozy womb of Ambrosia, the Broad Ripple staple her Italian immigrant grandparents and father, Gino Pizzi, established in 1979. Before settling into its current spot on North College Avenue, Ambrosia was located on Westfield Boulevard in the heart of the village, where the kitchen served up classics like spinach-and-cheese Ravioli Della Mamma and zabaglione for dessert.
“My father opened many, many other restaurants during the entire time I was growing up, but Ambrosia was kind of my home base. It was part of my DNA, part of the story of my childhood,” Manuela says. https://ow.ly/KwgK50YZqTk
