Real-world conservation research has come to University! 🐦🦇🦋

University recently hosted 20 conservation professionals from six states for the Midwest Motus Partners Technical Workshop, presented in collaboration with the American Bird Conservancy and the Sam Shine Foundation.

Over three days, participants learned about Motus wildlife tracking technology and helped bring University’s own Motus station online in the Habitat for Community Learning. As part of an international research network, the station will contribute data about the migration of birds, bats, butterflies, and other small animals — while giving our students opportunities to participate in real-world science right here on campus.

Visit the link below to learn more about Motus, the workshop, and watch a recording of Alan Pursell's presentation to University students during Community Meeting. We are excited to see what this new addition means for our students as we expand the reach of our Habitat for Community Learning!

🏆 PAAC CHAMPIONS! 🏆

What a night for Trailblazer Girls Golf! ⛳️

University captured the 2026 PAAC Championship at our home course, Wood Wind Golf Club, competing against Shortridge, International School of Indiana, and Park Tudor.

The Blazers turned in an impressive team performance, with four University golfers finishing among the tournament’s top five scorers! Senior Liz Maitz led the way, taking first place overall with an incredible 44 on the front nine.

University finished with a team score of 203, 38 strokes ahead of second place.
Congratulations to the entire team and coaches Taylor Newell and Elliot Elger on a championship night!

Go Blazers! 💙

What a week! 🇯🇵💙🇺🇸

This week, we welcomed eight students and three educators from Nagano High School in Kawachinagano, Japan, for the first student exchange between our two schools!

Our guests spent three days as Trailblazers, attending classes with their host students and experiencing life at University. They led Community Meetings with trivia about their school and city (did you know they have sheep on campus? 🐑) and got the entire school playing a Japanese version of rock-paper-scissors.

They also joined City of Carmel leaders for a special tree-planting ceremony celebrating the sister-city relationship between Carmel and Kawachinagano, and we ended the week gathered with our guests, host families, faculty, and staff for a reception and exchange of gifts.

Most importantly, new friendships were formed, and a partnership that began on paper last fall came to life for our students.

A huge thank you to the University families who opened their homes and helped make our guests feel so welcome. We can't wait to see where this friendship takes us next! 💙

We are excited to welcome Emily Obear-McClintic to University High School as our new Assistant Director of Athletics!

Emily joins University following several years at Cardinal Ritter High School, where she served as Assistant Athletic Director and Athletic Trainer. She holds a bachelor’s degree in Athletic Training from Ball State University and an MBA with a concentration in Healthcare Administration from the University of Southern Indiana.

“I’m excited to join the University community and get to know our students, families, and faculty,” Emily said. “I look forward to learning alongside great mentors, building meaningful connections, and supporting students as they discover their own interests and strengths. I’m so thrilled to be here!”

Emily is also an athlete herself, having competed in six HYROX races across the country. When she’s not working or training, she enjoys traveling to national parks and spending time with her husband, Brooks, and their four pets.

Please join us in welcoming Emily to University! 🚀

Historic rains couldn’t dampen the fun! 🌧️💙

The Class of 2030 was back in the swing this morning after an unforgettable Freshman Retreat at Jameson Camp! Despite some soggy conditions and plenty of changes to the plan, our newest Trailblazers spent two days building friendships, stepping outside their comfort zones, and trying new things.

Our junior and senior facilitators said they particularly loved watching new student friendships form (without their phones!) and seeing the freshmen roll with the changes, be good sports, and make the most of every activity. The unexpected weather also gave our facilitators a chance to put their own leadership and adaptability skills to work.

They returned ready to take on their first year together.

Our newest Trailblazers are off to Freshman Retreat at Jameson Camp! 🚀

After a full morning of learning the ropes together at University, followed by a little fun (including a very competitive rock-paper-scissors tournament ✂️), they boarded the buses and headed to camp!

Over the next 24 hours, they’ll get to know their classmates, connect with upperclassmen, tackle some team-building challenges, and have plenty of fun along the way.

Have a great retreat, Class of 2030! 💙

First day of the year is in the books! 🚀

We kicked things off yesterday with our Welcome Back Celebration, complete with ice cream, inflatables, student tours, new friends, and plenty of familiar faces. Then this morning, we gathered for our annual first-day remarks from Head of School Alicia LaMagdeleine, complete with an original rap, before heading into our first full day of classes.

It’s so good to be back together! 💙

See you Tuesday at 8:30 a.m. to do it all again, Trailblazers! And freshmen, get ready: Freshman Retreat is up next!

And you thought there’d be no Opening Day rap? 😎 You must not know us very well.

Thanks to Head of School Alicia LaMagdeleine and this year’s special guest, her daughter, senior Parker Sharp, for kicking off the school year in style! 🎤🚀
