You may have noticed the new name on this page and wondered what’s been happening behind the scenes. After nearly a decade as “Jennifer’s Ballroom,” the studio is stepping into an exciting new chapter.
Welcome to Carmel Dance Atelier. 💃
Carmel Dance Atelier begins a new chapter in the beloved space formerly known as Darrens Ballroom, now under the ownership of Jennifer.
An elite ballroom dancer with more than 20 years of experience, Jennifer has competed professionally and in Pro Am competition while teaching Latin, Rhythm, Smooth, and Standard styles.
Her passion is helping dancers of all levels build confidence, skill, and joy on the dance floor while continuing the strong dance community this space has long been known for.
Dance has always been Jennifer’s life’s passion, and now with a home studio of her own, conveniently located in the Carmel Arts District, her goal is to reach dancers of all ages with her unique and fun teaching style.
If you have ever wanted to learn to dance, now is the perfect time to start. Private lessons and group classes are now booking for April.

Hi everybody, the Studio will be closed today while everybody digs out from yesterday’s snowstorm. We will reopen on Tuesday our normal business hours everyone stay warm.!!

It’s almost impossible to compress 15 years of memories, friendships, lessons, competitions, laughter, and growth into a 4-minute video — but I wanted to try.

MEET DAVID
About 15 years ago, my student David’s life changed in an instant during a skiing accident. Doctors told him he would never walk again. His spine was rebuilt with metal. He lost sensation in his feet — only able to feel with his heels — and paralysis changed everything.
But David had other plans.
He taught himself to stand.
He taught himself to walk.
And then — he walked into Darren’s Ballroom.
The courage it takes to rewrite your fate like that… it’s something rare. It’s something fierce. And it has inspired every single person lucky enough to see him dance, laugh, push, and show up with unshakeable determination.
This week at the Hollywood Dancesport Championships, David was honored with the First Annual Inspiration Award — and there is truly no one more deserving. 🙌❤️
David, your strength, your resilience, and your heart remind us what’s possible when the world says “no” and you reply with “watch me.”

✨ Big Studio News! ✨
We’re making an exciting move starting January 1st 2026. After years of operating in two spaces across the hall, we’ve decided it’s time to streamline and refocus.
Our current 3,000 sq. ft. studio will be shifting into our 1,750 sq. ft. dance floor side — giving us everything we need for classes, lessons, and practice parties in one vibrant space.
But don’t worry, the other side isn’t going away — it’s being transformed into Darren’s Ballroom Production Studios 🎬🎙. This creative hub will become the new set for my podcast, will provide rentable studio space for filming, other podcasts, and other exciting projects I’m working on outside of the ballroom.
This move allows me to keep all the energy and elegance of our dance community alive while expanding into new ventures. Same passion, same joy, just a little smarter with our space.
Please be patient as we prepare to shift over the next few months.
