My mom did large scale commercial I.D. when I was in grade school. One night she came home with work and was refining a supergraphic (70's). I said "that is your work? I want to do coloring for my job."

Making progress with the house on the corner.

This is a project is soon to be headed into design review with the Carmel by the Sea planning department. The project is situated on a small lot (4000 s..f) and has very restrictive setbacks (including volume calculations for the overall massing). The project is designed for speculation so the client is really a conglomeration of extensive research into the market forces that are attracting buyers to this area.
My design process starts with a lot of trace paper and a few pens. After coming up with some general direction on the project heads into the computer to begin the negotiation between what I would like to make happen and what I can squeeze out of a 1600 s.f. house. The ability to accurately calculate my footprint area is indispensable to arriving at the end goal. Also, to be able to work with multiple camera views on my computer screens has sped the design development stage.
The renderings shown were done in CA without retouching.
