If you get injured, whether in sports or training, you can still sprint!

Here’s what we recommend:
1. Keep pain levels below 4/10.
2. Add in isometric holds and extend the warmup our longer.
3. Stay relaxed and loose on every sprint. Rehearse shapes rather than violence.
4. Do less than you think you can, even if the injury feels good.
5. Go hard on the exercises that have no effect on the injured area.

For example, I had a mild groin strain and plyometrics did not produce any pain, so I ramped up the intensity on those, within reason!

You can and should still train with an injury. Speed requires consistent practice and exposure to grow.

Matter of fact, speed training, when done well, can reduce the injury healing time for an athlete with all types of muscle and joint injuries!

Send this to a friend who’s been injured recently!

Last week I strained my hip flexor filming content for you (because I love you).

*Note to self: don’t try to keep up with Coach Brett*

So we’re gonna start a new series about training with injuries!

The first thing to know is that sprinting has an element of danger to it.

There is always a risk that you could get injured when running at full speed—there is no other training exercise that places as much stress, force, and velocity on the body as sprinting.

Injuries happen from time to time. But that doesn’t mean you should stop training and rest completely…

The objective is to continue training as fast as possible within the limitations of your injury.

If you have an ACL injury, you have three other healthy limbs.

If you have a muscle strain, you can train at half speed while you progressively build up to 100% intensity again.

Speed training should never go away, just altered when your body needs to heal.

Here’s some examples of how we can work around injuries in a speed session:
- reduce the range of motion to manage pain
- reduce the speed to prevent reaggravating the injury
- reduce the distance to short sprinting only
- reduce the load by sprinting in the water instead of over the ground

Follow for Part 2!

we’ll show you what I did in the days following to get back to training at full speed.
