What to do when your children are disrespectful? What do you think of this idea? After all of you cool down try saying "Honey, when you were disrespectful today it did not feel very good, to either of us. I think we need to have more fun together. How about for the next while we play more board games and read more together instead of you playing on your electronics?" This is a great way to start not only a conversation, but a positive momentum toward a more meaningful relationship.

When they misbehave (or choose misguided behavior to get their needs met) we can respond with kindness, this uplifts them assisting them to make better decisions in the future. Consequences are natural and should be related, reasonable, respectful and educate your child.

Encouragement and Electronics
Remember to take time to encourage the men in your life (little and big ones). They are doing their best and have a lot of pressure to get it right. Last night Jarek said something very unkind to me, so I left the house with Ayla and gave him some space. I did not get mad, because growing into a man is not easy. I don't need to punish or scold him, his thoughts will do that plenty enough. This morning when he came out of his room he walked straight to me, apologized so very sincerely and we talked about how it is challenging to control our feelings. We had a great talk about adolescence and hormones. He is not able to use his electronics for a few days, not as a punishment, but to give him the opportunity to do more things that build him up and express his energy. I get a lot of questions from parents about how to deal with electronics use, this is a great example of a respectful way to handle it.
