The older I get, the less interested I am in exercising simply for the sake of exercising.
I want to be strong enough to keep doing the things I love.
To travel. Walk for miles. Run. Lift things. Play sport. Get up off the floor easily. And hopefully still be doing all of those things many years from now.
That’s one of the reasons strength has become such an important part of how I think about movement — both for myself and in the studio.
And strength doesn’t have to look one particular way.
It might be weights.
The Reformer.
The Chair.
Springs.
Body weight.
Balance work.
Pilates gives us so many ways to challenge the body while also working on mobility, control and how we move.
For me, that’s the bigger picture.
Not being good at Pilates.
Building a body that’s strong enough for life.
Move well. Stay strong. Keep doing the things you love.
