ABC Time Home Preschool Where children learn through art, music, science, and literacy activities to prepare for Kindergarten I love working with children.

I enjoy introducing them to science and sensory experiences and watching their eyes enlarge when an experiment works. Watching the children grow and reach their fullest potential as they engage in activities I plan, is why I continue to teach. I want each child to know they are special and unique and are a valued member of the class. I emphasize team work, kindness, and individual growth through fun, engaging activities.

We had another amazing Summer Fun Camp filled with water play, laughter, & smiles! Art projects that celebrated each child's creativity. A highlight was creating superhero and pirate costumes complete with accessories. Science experiments that kept the children engaged and wanting more. Sensory experiences the children did not want to put down to say goodbye.

Prior to our 2 week Summer Break, our learners enjoyed "All About Dads!" theme in honor of Father's Day! All the art projects made were especially for dad. We had toolboxes out for a mini construction area, tinker blocks to build with, large trucks, and a house with figurines in the classroom.

At circle time there was an "I Love Dad" book that I read a few pages from daily. It was all about fathers in the animal kingdom and featured fun dad facts.

Science included tinkering with the circuit board, a static electricity experiment, a rainbow experiment, and a leak p**f bag experiment. For sensory we used kinetic sand and play dough.

Bunnies and Learning about the Life Cycle of Ladybugs has kept our learners engaged and busy!

The children learned that bunnies do not come from eggs, that they like to burrow underground, their favorite foods, fun facts about their ears, and that baby Bunnies are called kits.
During music & movement we be hopped, skipped, and shook our cotton tails to several bunny songs. Science involved using eggs all week. We performed a "bouncing egg" experiment that lasted 2 days, we made egg catapults and performed fizzing egg experiments.
There were lots of bunnies to play with, bunny ears, a turn the k**b bunny that hops, and plenty of carrots that were used for pre-math skill activities. Additionally, there were shape puzzles of bunnies and other Spring animals pictured.

The children witnessed the lifecycle of ladybugs as we had a Ladybug Land filled with larvae. The learners witnessed the transformation over 3 weeks and helped me take care of them. The children learned there are different types of ladybugs, different colored ladybugs, that not all ladybugs have spots, what ladybugs eat, and why they are good for our gardens.
There were ladybug figurines to play with, a pre-math activity where the learner needed to roll the dice, count the dots on the dice, and place the corresponding number of dots (pom-poms) on the ladybug. There were also small magnetic shapes to build with, and a ladybug letter find activity.

Wishing all the ABC Time mothers present & past a wonderful Mother's Day! Your children are beautiful and a reflection of the love and attention you give them. I feel fortunate to be a part of each child's development.
The children took extra care this week creating the art projects & special gift made for their moms.

We have been exploring Spring! Focusing on the changes seen in nature, temperature/weather changes, and what animals do in nature. For the dramatic play area there was a flower shop with a
cash register. All items had prices on them up to $10.
The children are really immersed themselves into role playing. They took turns at the register and being the customers at the flower shop. Using their credit cards, phone, and bags in hand. At the register they practiced identifying the numbers on the item being purchased to the number on the register. The children are learning to push the "add" & "equal" sign, and I'm helping them say the final dollar amount. Lots of expressive language being used with greeting customers, asking any questions, and saying goodbyes.

We also focused on many of the baby animals that are born in Springtime. Particular attention was given to baby birds. For science, a STEM project of nest building occurred.
During Music Time we pretended to hatch from an egg, like baby birds, quacked and moved to "5 Little Ducks", waddled and took turns being the leader to "The Feather in his Cap", and more.
For sensory there was kinetic sand, rocks, seeds, flowerpots, and flower figurines, along with tools to use.

Rainbows were our focus last week in a nod to St. Patrick's Day. There were many color fine motor activities in the classroom that also focused on sorting, color recognition, and basic patterning. The children learned the 7 colors of the rainbow (red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo, & violet). On St. Patrick's Day the children were asked to find shamrocks that I hid around the music and classrooms. Once all were found, the children were told that the leprechauns left something hidden for science. It turned out that Leprechauns left green nuggets. The students used medicine droppers and vinegar that created a reaction which resulted in finding gold coins.
Throughout the week, the students were asked to find items that were a specific color of the rainbow both inside and outside in nature.
Rainbows are perfect for science exploration! We made rainbows using sunlight and a silver CD; sunlight and a rectangular prism, performed several "walking water" experiments, and a Skittle rainbow experiment.
For music the children learned a "Rainbow Around Me" song in addition to listening & moving to 2 versions of "Somewhere Over the Rainbow", and a "Color the World" song.

The last couple of weeks have been all about Bugs. We've crawled, slithered, leapt, buzzed, and flew around during Music & Movement Time. The children enjoyed doing a "dancing bug experiment", had fun with magnetic worms, rescuing the frozen bugs, and making bug imprints with playdough for Science. The children were full of smiles finding bugs in dirt and kinetic sand.
We learned so many interesting facts about each bug highlighted daily and had great luck finding many bugs outside to place in our bug catchers for further observations.
