A fun science game.
Pokémon Pokopia is a cozy building game where players restore depleted habitats, grow plants, gather materials, and create environments where Pokémon can return and thrive. Through play, the game explores ideas of environmental stewardship, habitat restoration, and the interconnected needs of living things – offering kids and adults alike a playful way to think about how our choices shape the places we share with other species.

Core Ecological Concepts for This Game Concept
Biodiversity: Introducing specific plants to attract different Pokémon types (e.g., planting Berry orchards for Normal-types or maintaining wetlands for Water-types).

Symbiosis: Creating pairs where Pokémon help the environment thrive, such as using Grass-types to purify soil or Electric-types to power clean energy tools.

Resource Management: Harvesting materials sustainably without over-depleting the restored zones.

You may host a table to represent your organization and collaborate with others on issues. We welcome South Central PA communities, groups, and organizations addressing the harms of plastic pollution, emerging contaminants (PFAS), climate, artificial turf, data centers pesticides, and other local issues that impact the communities.

Understanding PFAS in Private Drinking Water Supplies

Pennsylvania private well owners are invited to attend this informative workshop on testing for PFAS in their water supply. PFAS, or per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances—often referred to as "forever chemicals"—have been widely used in industrial and household products and persist in the environment, where they have been detected in soil, surface water, and groundwater. Participants will gain a better understanding of how PFAS move through the environment, potential pathways for human exposure, and available testing and monitoring resources for private water supplies. The workshop will also cover how to interpret test results, explore management options, and review current scientific research and regulatory developments related to PFAS.

The free one-hour workshop provides a complimentary water test for private water supply users valued at approximately $300.

Participants must meet the following requirements to qualify for free water testing:

Register and attend the live educational event. (Happening June 25 at Penn State Cumberland Co. Office, 310 Allen Road, Carlisle)
Reside at a primary residence (not a camp or summer home) with a private water supply, such as a well, spring, or cistern.
Only one test is permitted per household. Participants must collect water samples and return them to a designated drop-off location within a few days of the event for analysis by an accredited laboratory. Testing and seating are limited; please register only if you can attend and complete the water testing process.

Funding for this program was made possible by the Pennsylvania Department of Health cooperative agreement with the CDC Environmental Health Capacity Building initiative (Grant -01-00) and support from the Master Well Owner Network grant from the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection.

This event is free to participants and made possible through grant funding.

Act 1 follows Tamela Trussell. In this episode of In Times Like These, we dive into PFAS, also known as “forever chemicals.”

A journey from a fearful childhood to an environmental advocate begins with a polluted stream near her home. As she uncovers the connection between landfill waste, plastics, and untested toxic chemicals, Tamela transforms her concern into action—founding Move Past Plastic and mobilizing her community to confront contamination at its source.

In Act 2, Vermont organizers Marguerite Adelman and Sylvia Knight reveal how PFAS and pesticides act as “double poisons,” traveling from military bases and agricultural fields into everyday life. Through grassroots organizing, coalition-building, and legislative pressure, they are challenging systems that allow these chemicals to spread unchecked—and demanding stronger protections for public health.

Act 3 brings us to coastal South Carolina, where riverkeeper Erin Donmoyer investigates PFAS contamination flowing into Winyah Bay. As wastewater plants and industrial pollution threaten local waterways and seafood, Erin and her allies are racing to raise awareness and protect communities from a toxic food chain.
