Hillel International has selected Lilith Greene-Friedman, class of 2027 for Student Cabinet! Cabinet members will represent nearly 200,000 Jewish students across the globe to advance Hillel’s mission of enriching Jewish student life.

Lilith was nominated by the Asbell Center staff for her leadership and commitment to Hillel’s mission, and underwent a rigorous review process by Hillel International as part of their selection to serve on the Cabinet. At Dickinson, Lilith has served as Hillel president and Vice president, and currently works as one of our Engagement Interns.

Hillel International president and CEO Adam Lehman Adam Lehman said "We depend on the valuable insights and reflections from our Student Cabinet leaders, and we’re very excited to work with this new cohort of Student Cabinet members in the year ahead!”

So many mazals to Lilith on this well-deserved achievement. We are so excited to learn more about your work with the Student Cabinet!

Next Alumni Spotlight:
This is Geoffrey Cole a 2020 graduate!
When I think about creating meaning on campus I think of my time at Friday evening services and dinner at the Asbell Center. It was always fun to see friends and pray together (often following a tune or two you hadn’t heard before), and then to have dinner. Over my four years on campus, it felt like the most consistent part of my routine.
2. Now, creating moments of Jewish meaning is focused around introducing my son, Elliot, to our Jewish culture. Even simple things like blessings on Friday nights, or attending a Purim party, feel even more meaningful because we share it with him.
3. Dickinson actively encourages its students to find things that bring meaning to their lives through clubs, religious centers, arts, sports, you name it. As an alumni, that lesson taught me to actively search “my people” and, when I find them, try to embrace opportunities to make meaningful moments and memories with them.
4. I can’t think of any jewish text, but my grandfather always used to say “everything is interesting in its own way” and, while I don’t think that’s Jewish (per se), it feels Jewish and I try to live with his sense of curiosity.
5. I find meaning in collective success; when teams effectively work together to build towards a common goal. That is what I tried to focus on when I was President of Hillel, and that focus on a common goal (a purpose) and what my team (whether personal or professional) has to do to achieve it creates meaning.

Alumni spotlight #3!
This is Carolyn Goode a 2018 graduate.
1. There were so many pockets of campus I was fortunate enough to make meaning of— but Asbell is at the top of the list. When I think about being with friends every Friday night for Shabbat services and dinner, I remember so much laughter and giddiness; I think we all felt that is was ok to be silly there, with each other, after a week of classes. It was truly the happiest way to start the weekend.

2. As an alum, I create my moments of Jewish meaning by singing in the choir at my synagogue, but one of my absolute favorites is celebrating Jewish holidays with my great friends Sarah Schneid and Jessica Herrmann, also two alums who live in Philly and who I have been BLESSED to stay friends with all of these years!! They make like better!

3. Dickinson always encouraged us to dive into what we were doing and make the most of our experiences and adventures. So many spaces I was in at Dickinson fostered deep conversations and meaningful moments. I miss this a lot, but I think it has helped me to be an active community member in my life now and to take changes and say “yes” to experiences because I know they will make my life richer.

4 tzedek tzedek tirdof: justice, justice you shall pursue. Always strive to do and be better for yourself and the world. I use that and Tikkun Olam.

5 I bring meaning making into leadership by communicating that I am there for all who I am working with, and that collaboration makes me better at my work. One thing I use to show this is being a good and active listener.
