The J. Sherwood McGinnis Jr. War, Peace, and Justice Project especially on Veterans who have served our nation. Marine Corps Senior Service Representative at the U.S. Army War College, Carlisle, PA.

Purpose: To illuminate the human drama of conflict, help us better understand war as a human phenomenon, illustrate the impact the use of force has on society . . . Prior to Colonel Scott Buran’s retirement on September 1, 2012, after 30 years of military service, he served as a faculty member in the Department of Military Strategy, Planning, and Operations and as the U.S. Colonel Buran’s operatio

nal experience includes: Desert Shield and Desert Storm; Allied Force and Joint Guardian (Kosovo); and Operation Iraqi Freedom. From September 1, 2013 through May 15, 2014, Colonel Buran served as the Maritime Stability Operations advisor to the U.S. Army Peacekeeping and Stability Operations Institute at Carlisle Barracks. He was also employed by The Pennsylvania State University’s Applied Research Laboratory as a Non-Lethal Weapons Course Instructor from 2013-2020. Colonel Buran is currently the Executive Director, Cor Christi Trinitate, a non-profit 501(c)3 institute dedicated to the development of the moral conscience and the renewal of ethics, moral leadership, and spirituality in vocations. Colonel Buran is also a War, Peace, and Justice Symposium project coordinator and a resident of Carlisle, PA.

Step back in time and join us on July 3 from 10:00 AM–12:00 PM and again 6: 00 PM - 8:00 PM for The U.S. Constitution, Virtue, and the Pursuit of the Common Good.

Experience an engaging tavern-style conversation between George Washington and Patrick Henry as they debate the principles that shaped our nation, moderated by LTG James Dubik. This special program is presented in partnership with the J. Sherwood McGinnis, Jr. War, Peace and Justice Project.

After the discussion, stay and enjoy the Block Party festivities as we continue celebrating our nation's founding and the ideas that still inspire us today!

Persons think of politics in different ways. Politics can invite a sense of hope. Politics can also provide the means to exercise power. Politics for some persons equates to despair. Thinking politics prompts also competing visions of violence, power,
irreconcilable difference, truth, opinion, and the excluded. This talk invites citizens to explore these many conceptions, create new ways of thinking about politics, and assess what is possible in our own towns, states, and constitutional republic.

We the People: An American Experience Through the Lens of the
US Constitution

The J. Sherwood McGinnis, Jr. War, Peace, and Justice Project,
Messiah University, and Shippensburg University present:

"The Fred Korematsu Story" - An Emmy-award winning documentary film and discussion with guest panelists.

Fred Korematsu was probably never more American than when
he resisted, and then challenged in court, the forced incarceration
of Japanese-Americans during World War II. Korematsu lost his
landmark Supreme Court case in 1944, but never his indignation
and resolve. OF CIVIL WRONGS AND RIGHTS is the story of how
he was vindicated decades later on proof that the government
lied to the Court, turning a civil injustice into a civil rights victory.

Award-winning A RETURN HOME documentary follows journalist Nataliia Ruda as she journeys to Ireland, uncovering the resilience
of Ukrainians displaced by war. Join us for this powerful
experience of a special screening of A Return Home with live
performance of award-winning score by Jennifer Blyth.

There will also be a Q&A with A Return Home creators and a
discussion panel with invited guests.
