Summer sure flew by but I’m looking forward to welcoming my students back into the classroom!

This year I’ll be teaching Food Safety & Nutrition, Nutrition Science, and Culinary Arts I & II. I’m always looking for ways to update my kitchens and classroom by adding new equipment, resources, and hands-on experiences that keep my students engaged.

One last NLC post… because this crew deserves one of their own. I couldn’t have done this week without these parents and chaperones.

Brandy was the real MVP, mastering the Metro system and somehow getting our group everywhere we needed to be without missing a beat.

Billy was always bringing up the rear, making sure no one got left behind as we navigated airports, the Metro, and busy streets.

Richelle generously volunteered her time to serve as a STAR Events judge while still helping take care of our group.

And to all of them—thank you for keeping up with head counts, making sure everyone was where they needed to be, taking pictures for me while I was in advisor meetings, and for going along with everything I had planned even when the days were long and our feet were tired. Not once did I hear a complaint.

It takes a village, and I couldn’t have asked for a better one this week. Get some rest, y’all earned it!

What a way to wrap up our week in Washington, D.C.!

Our last day at the National Leadership Conference was a big one! We celebrated the hard work of our students during the STAR Events Recognition Session, and we’re excited to share that three of our six STAR Event teams earned Top 10 finishes in the nation!

Day 4!

We started our morning on Capitol Hill for the FCCLA Next 250 Rally, where members from across the country came together to advocate for FCCLA and the importance of Family and Consumer Sciences education.

From there, we toured the Museum of the Bible, squeezed in a little souvenir shopping, and then headed back for the evening general session. We watched the final two LifeSmarts Knowledge Bowl teams battle it out for the championship and as always loved watching the FCCLA Fashion Show where fashion design students showcased their creations.

It’s been such a fun few days and there’s still more to come… but I’ll save that exciting news for tomorrow. 😉 Stay tuned!

Day 3 Recap!

Today we wrapped up our final STAR Event competitions and are now patiently waiting to hear tomorrow’s results. 🤞

Between competitions, we spent time pin trading, networking with FCCLA members from across the country, exploring the FCCLA Showcase, and gathering new ideas and inspiration from other chapters.

We ended the day with dinner in Georgetown on the waterfront!

Day 2 was a full one…nearly 18,000 steps later 🥴

Today was competition day for some, while others explored the Expo and attended RED Talks and leadership breakout sessions.

We enjoyed lunch at the Hard Rock Cafe before touring the US Capitol this afternoon. So beautiful! Wrapped up the day with the Arkansas Delegation Meeting, a delicious dinner at Founding Farmers, and a pool party back at the hotel.

We are excited to see what the rest of the week brings!
