As Dickinson Law’s most advanced law degree, the S.J.D. is designed for both domestic and foreign lawyers seeking specialized knowledge in a particular area of law; a career in academic law or other scholarly, research, policy, or professional endeavors; or career advancement through the acquisition of an academic doctorate in law. A federal judge announced on Tuesday that ICE has reached an agreement with schools that sued it over the rule change. The directive will now be rescinded nationwide.

: As a Law Lion Ambassador, Berk Demiral ’20 assisted with registration during orientation for the class of 2021. “I handed a 1L named Caitlin her welcome bag. It turns out this 1L would become my fiancé. This is my fondest memory of my time at Dickinson Law.” Berk is most proud of being a part of the Dickinson Law National Trial Team, where he gained invaluable experience in trial advocacy and enjoyed the time spent with his teammates. He served as vice chair for recruitment on Moot Court Board, a student coach for the O’Savio Intraschool Moot Court Competition, an advocate on the National Trial Team, and an advocate on the Phillip C. Jessup International Law Moot Court Team. He received the 2020 Montgomery and Macrae Award for Nontraditional Students, which is given to students who are considered both nontraditional and whose background contributes to the diversity of the Law School student body and who have the highest grade in Wills, Trusts & Estates or Administrative Law. Berk was selected for the Order of Barristers, a national honorary organization recognizing excellence in the art of courtroom advocacy. He hails from Datça, Turkey, and he earned his undergraduate degree from the University of British Columbia. Congratulations, Berk!

: Prior to attending Dickinson Law to earn his Master of Laws, Tarig Shoush ’20 was a lawyer for the Nabil Adib Law Office. His interests are in human rights, transitional justice, and international investment trade and law. Tarig is from Khartoum, Sudan, and he previously studied at Al-Neelain University in Khartoum, Sudan. Congratulations, Tarig!

: Master of Laws student Joris van Leeuwen ’20 is most proud of taking the leap to move his entire life from the Netherlands to the United States and for earning two CALI awards during the fall semester. His fondest memory is meeting his significant other, Julia Mary Jacobs ’18. Prior to earning his LL.M., Joris studied for a semester at Dickinson Law while attending Radboud University, Nijmegen, the Netherlands. He completed a law internship with JPR Advocaten in the Netherlands, and worked as a tutor and translator. Congratulations, Joris!

Congratulations Brian Ragunan '20! During his time at Dickinson Law, Brian supported International students leading up to their arrival to and during their time spent at Dickinson Law. He also served as secretary, vice president, and president of Military Law Caucus as well as a Law Lion Ambassador. He is the recipient of the American Law Institute Continuing Legal Education Scholastic and Leadership Award, which is given to the third-year law student who best represents a combination of scholarship and leadership. Brian will work in the Division of Law at the State of New Jersey Office of the Attorney General after graduation. He hails from Westampton, NJ, and he earned his undergraduate degree from Saint Joseph's University. Thank you for your hard work Brian! The Office of International Programs wishes you all the best! : Master of Laws student Seung Yeun (Ashley) Ryu is most proud of earning her degree in the U.S. at Dickinson Law. “This great journey was possible because of support from the school. Every class was great. It was an amazing experience that I could attend the same class with the J.D. students and feel the vigorous atmosphere of the classes at Dickinson Law. Prior to attending Dickinson Law to earn her LL.M., Seung Yeun worked as a legal researcher, teacher, and administrative manager at various educational institutions in South Korea. She plans to take the New York bar exam in September. Seung Yeun hails from Yongin, South Korea, and she previously studied at Ewha Womans University in Seoul, South Korea. Congratulations, Seung Yeun!

: Master of Laws student Sayeed Azhar ’20 is most proud of attending Dickinson Law for his LL.M. He has many great memories of his time at Dickinson Law, but his fondest memory is of Dean Conway addressing the newest Dickinson Law students during Convocation on September 20, 2019. Prior to attending Dickinson Law, Sayeed attended Kabul University in Kabul, Afghanistan, and worked as a general director, senior pension policy analyst, and strategic policy advisor at the World Bank in Afghanistan. He also served as legal counsel for USAID (IRD-KESIP) in Afghanistan, among other positions, including team leader for MCM Learning, a sub-contractor for the U.S. DoD. His interests are in international law, national security, and cybersecurity. Sayeed was selected by his classmates to deliver remarks to the class of 2020. A video of his remarks will be shared Friday on our page. Congratulations, Sayeed!

: L.L.M student Giulia Cerrai ’20 is grateful for having had the opportunity to be taught by so many distinguished faculty. “Everyone here at Dickinson Law is like a family!” Prior to attending Dickinson Law, she worked as an event planning assistant at The National Italian American Foundation in Washington D.C. After graduation, Giulia will intern at Jones Day in Brussels, Belgium. She is from Pontassieve, a municipality in Florence, Italy. Congratulations, Giulia Cerrai!

: Prior to attending Dickinson Law for his Master of Laws, Fulbright Scholar Mekan Karayev ’20 studied law as an undergraduate student at Saint-Petersburg State Agrarian University in Russia. He was an instructor at the International University for Humanities and Development in Ashgabat, Turkeminstan—where he is originally from—as well as a translator and legal assistant. Mekan is interested in international law, particularly international corporate and business law, and plans to enroll in the Master of International Public Policy program at Wilfrid Laurier University in Ontario, Canada this fall. Congratulations, Mekan Karayev !

: According to Master of Laws student Beas Chakraborty ’20, Dickinson Law has made her a better human being altogether. "I am acknowledged by the best-ranking professors in the world. I have a lot of memories here, but one of the best memories I have is when my Torts professor praised me in front of the class.” During her time at Dickinson Law, Beas was a faculty research assistant and a member of Women's Law Caucus. She earned her bachelor’s of law from Calcutta University in India. Prior to attending Dickinson Law, Beas was an intern at the Supreme Court of India and spoke at the Asia Youth International Model United Nations Conference organized by WHO. Her interests lie in criminal law and cyberlaw. Congratulations, Beas Chakraborty!
