For our next first year writing professor intro we have Dr. Crummey:

Dr. Crummey has been a professor at Blackburn for awhile now and along with teaching first year writing (WR111 & 112), she also teaches Intro to Creative Writing, Exploring Genres, Creative Nonfiction, Intro to Professional Writing, and the occasional literature course. She's pretty excited to teach Literature of the Natural World this Spring semester.

She enjoys classes where her and the students are able to have lively conversations and they are able to expand their ability to articulate creative and critical ideas.

Her advice to students would be to practice persistence, patience, and kindness with yourself as much as you do with others.

Her office is located in Husdon 303C and her hours are Mon. & Fri. 1pm and Tues. & Thurs. 11am. She is available for online meets during all of these times, but is only face to face on Mon., Tues., and Thurs.

The next Professor Introduction is Dr. Nicole Lawrence.

This is Dr. Lawrence's first year at Blackburn and she is happy to be here! This semester she is teaching WR111 and WR112, as well as World Literature and Theories of Gender and Sexuality. When asked what her favorite class to teach is, she responded:

"This semester, I am loving my Theories of Gender and Sexuality course so much. It's really exciting and inspiring to see the connections my students are making between the material we're reading and their own lives. That said, I am also *very* excited to teach Brit Lit II next semester -- the Victorians are such a strange and interesting bunch."

One fun fact about Dr. Lawrence is that she has four tattoos - and two are literature-inspired! Her advice for first-year students is as follows:

"Take agency and control of your education -- ask for help, ask questions, do the work, be involved. If you get active in your own learning, you'll learn; no one else can do this for you."

Our next intro of the week is Mercy Daniels.

Hi! I'm Mercy, and this is my second year at the Writer's Block. This semester I am working with Dr. Lawrence's WR111 class. My open hours are Monday 7-9 and Tuesday 4-5. Some of my biggest strengths are brainstorming ideas and organizing paper structure.

For our first writing professor's introduction, we are welcoming Dr. Browning.

This is Dr. Browning's first year at Blackburn College and she is teaching a variety of writing and literature courses such as Writing 1: Genre and Purpose, Introduction to Literature, British Literature 1: Middle Ages to the 19th Century, and Introduction to Creative Writing. Although she loves all of her classes, her favorite is a poetry workshop which she is excited to teach next semester. Some fun facts about Dr. Browning are that she is the author of a book of poems (Witch Doctrine), she loves gothic horror, and she recently adopted a terrier mix named Roscoe. 

Dr. Browning's advice for students: "Be proactive and advocate for yourself in your classes.  If you have a question or are having difficulty with something, don't stay quiet and give up-- reach out to your professor, to tutoring on campus, or even to your other classmates for help. No one gets through anything challenging in life alone. If you need help, it doesn't mean that you aren't smart enough to be in college or that you're weak. Also, it is literally my job and my joy in life to help you, so don't be afraid to reach out!"

Our next intro of the week is Jameela Brown:

Hello, my is Jameela, I am a Junior, and a second year Writing Assistant for the Block. This year I get work with Dr. Dillon as her WA for first year writing. My new open hours are Wednesday 4pm-7pm. Some of my writing strengths are content flow, evidence linking/unpacking, and conciseness.

Hello, my is Megan Lindzy. I am a Sophomore. This is my first year in the Block. My open hours are Tuesday from 6-9pm. I'm a first year writing instructor for Dr. Dillon. And my biggest strength in writing is helping with the way a sentence flows and the organization of a paper.
