I think my 3 year old likes history. How do I know? Everyday on the way home from preschool, we drive through downtown. (This is a photo of it in the 1960s - businesses are different but buildings look the same!) she is so worried about ā€œthe rusty old housesā€ - what she calls the old, now-abandoned mill on the left edge of the photo. She wants to know who used to go to that building. And she implores that people can still use it, right? Hopefully, something cool is done with that structure someday! My little one would be so happy.

I received this book today (perfect timing for me going back to work after summer break, and my oldest daughter starting a new preschool) and my little one loves it! We read it 5 times in a row, and then she even started ā€œreadingā€ it to herself. I love how it shows the parallels between mommy’s day and her little one’s day šŸ’•

Good morning! Teachers at my school started back to work yesterday! My project before students start is to revamp my Contemporary World Issues class. I built the curriculum from scratch a few years ago, but it is time for a refresh. Any tips, ideas, resources you love, etc. would be much appreciated!!

Happy Women's History Month to all the incredible teachers out there! As we celebrate the amazing accomplishments of women throughout history, we must also recognize the critical role that female educators have played in shaping the minds and futures of generations of students. Your hard work and dedication are an inspiration to students and fellow educators, and that impact will live on for years to come. Keep making history!

I tasked an AI image generator with creating a history teacher inspired by Rosie the Riveter and these are some of the things it came up with! I love the food one šŸ˜‚ There has been a lot of discussion about AI in education lately - both good and bad. I think creating AI images could have a lot of fun classroom uses!

I met my reading goal for the year! This accomplishment was once again made possible by free audiobooks through the .app and apps from my local library. I enjoyed tracking my reading through , and found a cool new app to satisfy my love of data - .storygraph.

Let me know what books you recommend I add to my 2023 reading!

A couple of weeks ago the social studies classes at Michigan Virtual Charter Academy enjoyed the fantastic opportunity to have virtual film screening of ! Following the film, they talked with Tessa Germaine, the director of the film, about history and filmmaking.

Something I love about virtual teaching is being able to connect my students with amazing people, projects, and ideas from different places! Thanks so much, Tessa, for taking the time to share your expertise and have such a rich conversation with my students!

As a virtual teacher, I spend A LOT of time on the computer. 40 hours a week for work, and then any additional time for other projects.

So, I’m taking a tech break for the next few days while I’m at the Michigan Museums Association Conference on Mackinac Island! I’m not even bringing a computer with me. I’m going to focus on the learning opportunities at the conference. I’m going to enjoy the Fall colors, historic sites, and shops on the island. I’m going to embrace the experience of Mackinac Island as a historic place without motorized vehicles and leave my tech at home. I can’t wait!
