The Power of Play

The Power of Play is a project with a big vision...a vision for universally inclusive playgrounds that allow everyone, regardless of ability level or need, play together. Play is the foundation for learning, development of social skills, creativity, motor skill development, imagination, motivation, and attention. All children deserve the right to play. Our mission is to re-surface the current playgrounds, removing mulch and replacing with a solid, poured-in-place rubber surface which will be accessible and safe for all individuals. We also plan to add structures that are accessible to all children and adults, including those with special needs or physical limitations and those who require a wheelchair for mobility. The changes will increase safety by reducing or eliminating risk of abrasions, fractures, head injuries, asthma, and eye abrasions by replacing the mulch surface. The changes will also allow students with limited mobility who require a wheelchair, walker, crutches, or have high or low muscle tone issues interfering with walking to have access to the entire area of our playgrounds. There will also be accommodations for people with sensory processing dysfunction, auditory impairments and visual impairments. Families can access the playgrounds after school hours and on weekends, to play together as well. The Power of Play... Play is for EVERYONE!
