It’s almost like, I tried to warn everyone that this was happening. And now this….

We made National headlines because this isn’t strictly OUR story…we were just one of the first who collapsed under the pressure and lack of support. Thousands will follow in our footsteps and be forced into immediate closures as well. We cannot demand quality from providers but restrict aid and support.

My heart breaks that we were first to fall victim to this extremely backwards, flawed and undervalued system but I’m hoping that our story is a catalyst for real change for our children.

While government subsidies allowed Jordyn Rossignol to keep her child care center in northern Maine afloat during the pandemic, she finally made the wrenching decision in...

Well, it’s officially over. This morning, the kids and I said goodbye to our little school, our dream, our home. We cried together and talked about the happy memories no one can take away from us. We met some of the most beautiful people on the planet in this building and built a community that will always be a part of our story as a family.

I built this school for my babies, so they could grow up in the environment that nourished their curiosity, allowed them to be their true selves and lastly a place where they would learn the importance of kindness and hard work. We created this environment so my two babies and hundreds of other children would have a giant safety net of peers and adults who are bonded to them for life.

Now that this chapter is heartbreakingly over, these two children are going to get all of me…my undivided attention.

My heart will forever mourn Miss Jordyn’s Child Development Center and the dream we had. But we will be okay.

Here’s to new beginnings❤️

Since Monday night, I just haven’t had the words or emotional strength to sit down and 1. Respond to everyone who has sent an outpouring of love and appreciation or 2. To process and reflect on the immense loss we just experienced this week.

When I opened our school out on the New Sweden road in 2015, my plan was to be a fixture in our community, a place for parents to drop off their children while they work where they can rest assured they are learning, cared for, safe but most of loved. I believe we have done just that for 8 years. The plan was to be here forever. That someday when I’m much older and (more) exhausted, maybe another individual like myself with a passion for children, family, education and with a drive to change the status quo would someday take over. I wanted forever. Unfortunately, it was ripped away from us abruptly and it has been devastating.

All I’ve been able to say this week is that it feels like a death. Everything my family has sacrificed in the last 8 years is gone. I’ve tried- I have yelled and screamed, begged and pleaded, cried and fought for someone to take a look at this crisis and DO SOMETHING. But all I’ve ever been told is to “hang in there”, “it’ll get easier” “cut corners where you can” or “running a business is hard”. The system failed our children.

I’m not going to address the hatred and ignorance spewed our away this week from those who have no connection to our school family- becaus quite frankly, they don’t understand what kind of family unit they were never a part of, so why would they understand? I feel sorry for them. They weren’t there last night when my entire staff of educators were hugging parents while children, moms, dads and grandparents sobbed. They aren’t watching Daren and I walk through these empty halls crying this morning. This is painful.

Instead, right now I’ll focus on the beauty. This place has been magic. It is where my children were introduced to all of their best friends. Marriages happened because of this place- and then a beautiful child was born because his parents met here. We’ve held multiple baby showers here for children I now love as my own…birthday parties…graduations…parent nights…this has been the safe haven for hundreds of families.

I’m going to continue to tell our story. My story may have had a devastating and tragic ending but I am going to use this pain, sadness and anger I feel right now for good. We will create the change we need. Let this devastation be an example for what will continue to happen if we don’t WAKE UP. This State hasn’t seen the last of me. All levels of government haven’t. I’m hungrier than ever to save this field for our CHILDREN. Economics aside, we did this for our children and this morning 100 children are waking up asking to go see their teachers and friends and they are being told they can’t. Make it make sense…

I encourage everyone to be kind today and everyday. We need it.

To my parents today and all the way back to the beginning…thank you. Your children have been my greatest adventure. This is not goodbye. I love you all.

Today is by far the worst day of my life. Telling my staff that we are forced to close and then an hour later telling all of my families was absolute torture and something I never thought I would have to do. I thought if I kept fighting, and sacrificing and advocating, it would get better and we could stay open forever.

I’m going to try to keep this as straight forward as possible. We dried up all of our savings into payroll and expenses, have had to borrow money just to cover payroll on multiple occasions and as a result. We are forced to close our doors right away. It is impossible to continue operating a business with extreme overhead that does not match what is being brought in by tuition.

This has been a family business that has been our entire life for the last 8 years. We are beyond devastated that this is the way we are going out— by having no other choice. This was not our decision, this is the only option.

By closing we are leaving 100 children without care and parents are frantic. I am left with immense debt that I am frantic about paying off. This is horrible for everyone. But the true tragedy is how this will impact our children- the main reason I have hung on so long and fought so hard for. My babies. Displacing the children who have grown up together and look forward to seeing their teachers is devastating to us all.

People are incredibly cruel and I can’t believe the things people are saying without knowing the full story. I beg this community and people who are insistent on being awful on the internet to please think of the kids, teachers and parents who are hurting. This is already incredibly painful and we need some grace and kindness. We are all incredibly heartbroken.

We had some excitement this morning!! Our butterflies hatched! When we got to school we had two flittering around the net. Then all of a sudden, 3! We are anxiously awaiting the 4th to hatch. Liam is drawing them hoping to catch it as it comes out of it’s chrysalis 😍 Learning, man. It’s the best !
