I have been debating whether to post this for several days now and have decided that it is important to make sure this information is out clearly so that everyone understands my personal stand as well as the OHSAA regulations we must follow.

Those of you that have been around me know that I am a relentless recruiter of athletes within the district to the teams that I coach. I am known to be willing to add athletes right up to the very last minute they can join the team and still compete in a meet. I have recruited a senior athlete right up to the minute there was not enough time left to get the required number of practices in to run at conference or districts because we were one short of having enough girls for a team score.

Having said that I want to be sure there are no misunderstandings out there about how some of these things work.
By OHSAA RULE if you compete for a school (OHSAA member or nonmember) or for a club team in any OHSAA sanctioned meet (ie Northmor Invitational) you may not transfer to an OHSAA member school and compete in that season.

Only OHSAA member school teams are eligible to compete at Districts, Regionals, or the State meet. No non member schools, clubs, or unattached athletes will be permitted to enter.

In order to compete at a conference meet you must be a member of a school team that is a member of that conference. All local conferences currently require their members to be an OHSAA member school.

Even if an athlete were eligible to compete for another organization throughout the season then join the school team for the postseason I would not allow that as it would be extremely unfair to those athletes who have chosen to compete for the team all season especially any that might end up losing an opportunity to compete. (This is a different situation than an athlete that has not been on a team and decides to join late)
