Our students represented the SIU School of Management and Marketing with professionalism, curiosity, and a willingness to step outside their comfort zones during our recent study abroad program in France. From exploring new cultures and business perspectives to building friendships and navigating international travel, they embraced every opportunity to learn and grow.

Our School of Management & Marketing students had an incredible Career Day in St. Louis! The day was packed with networking, learning, and real-world business insights.

We started the morning at Hubbell, explored the sports industry at the Enterprise Center over lunch, and wrapped up with an inspiring visit to Clayco. Along the way, students connected with professionals, discovered career paths, and saw firsthand how classroom concepts come to life in the business world.

What an incredible way to finish out the week, American Marketing Association (SIUC Chapter), at the AMA International Collegiate Conference in Chicago! 🎉

Day 2 was full of competition, networking, and professional development. Students competed in Perfect Pitch and Marketing Strategy, attended industry sessions, and connected with companies at the career fair through the American Marketing Association. That evening, they heard from keynote speaker Sean Greenwood of Ben & Jerry’s and celebrated some exciting news!

SIU AMA earned 2nd place in the Marketing Week competition in the Small Chapter division! 🏆

Day 3 began with an insightful seminar from Gartner before students explored more of Chicago and prepared for the closing banquet.

At the banquet, SIU AMA received even more exciting recognition, the chapter was named a Top 10 Small Chapter in the nation by the American Marketing Association! 👏

The School of Management and Marketing is incredibly proud of these students for their hard work, leadership, and the way they represented Southern Illinois University Carbondale on a national stage.

Our AMA chapter completed Day 1 at the American Marketing Association International Collegiate Conference yesterday! 🎉

Our AMA members kicked off the conference bright and early with the Marketing Simulation, putting their strategy and teamwork skills to the test.

Throughout the day, members connected with students from chapters across the country and outside of it during the Social Scramble, represented our chapter in the Parade of Chapters, and wrapped up the night at the Opening Kick Off with Jade Walters, who spoke about designing your own career and taking opportunities even when the timing doesn’t feel perfect.

It was a full first day of learning, networking, and representing SIU with pride. We can’t wait to see what the rest of the conference has in store for them!

A big congratulations to Emma Hanks on graduating from the SIU School of Management and Marketing. Watching Emma grow during her time with us has been a joy, and this advice she shared with students says a lot about the kind of person she is.

“Get involved. Be present. Get out of your comfort zone.”

Those three things alone can change the trajectory of your life.

One thing I’ve learned over the years is that the most valuable opportunities rarely come from a textbook. They come from relationships, conversations, and the courage to step into rooms where you might feel a little uncomfortable at first.

Emma has done exactly that, and we’re incredibly proud to have her as part of the Forbes Financial Group.

Congratulations, Emma. The future is bright, and we’re excited to see all the places your journey takes you. 🎓

We’re shouting out graduating senior Emma Hanks, who has chosen to share some advice for current and future students at the SIU School of Management and Marketing. 🤍

“Get involved. Participation in RSOs and student organizations is just as important as your classwork, it shaped my personal growth and career path more than I expected.

Be present. Don’t just show up. Listen, engage, and contribute. You never know what opportunities can come from genuine connections.

Get out of your comfort zone. Growth only happens when you push yourself.

Don’t be afraid to be vulnerable or to fail. Vulnerability builds meaningful relationships. Failure builds success.

Prioritize yourself and your mental health. You can’t give your best if you’re running on empty.

And soak up every moment. It goes by faster than you think.”
