It’s been a fun summer for our young adults! We have spent time exploring Carbondale and the surrounding area.

Listening to Elixir at Route 51 Brewery, watching Sharknado at the Carbondale Park District Splash Park, Yoga with Blessing Strusz at Wildflower Wellness, shopping at Target, and so much more.

Our Extension students are making the most of summer 2026! ☀️

With all of our current Extension students working paid jobs, weekends have become even more meaningful. From rodeos, drone shows, fireworks, lake adventures, and live music to enjoying ice cream on a rainy evening, they've been embracing everything that makes small-town summers so special.

The sunshine, the warm weather, great friends, and unforgettable experiences are making this a summer to remember!

This summer, the OPTIONS students are enjoying a new class with Kelly. “Problem solving through game play” has been popular and a lot of fun for the students. Kelly chooses different games each week, discusses rules and strategies and offers solutions to obstacles. So far, the students are learning new games, facing new social situations and learning to define new problem solving techniques!

On Sundays, students are busy working hard with staff to prep and get ready for the academic week. Menu planning, grocery shopping, emptying recycling bins are some of the tasks we do. Taking care of the small items on Sundays sets our students up for success throughout the week.

The first week of our summer was awesome! Thursday, the students attended the first sunset concert of the summer at Shryock. We listened to music by Shane Guerrette and had treats from Cielito Azul and Martha chose to get a bagel from Dave's Bagels. We all had a great time listening to music, having some summer treats and enjoying the evening.
