Southern Illinois Safe Zone has its first training of the fall semester on Tuesday, August 25th from 2-4 PM in Student Services Building Room 170 (across the hallway from the Student Multicultural Resource Centers).

Community members, staff, faculty, students, alumni, and SIU retirees are welcome to attend! In order to receive a complete experience, your punctuality is desired and required and will allow us to dive in to more material. RSVP is required; all you need to do is send an email to [email protected] indicating your interest and we will mark you down!

Beginning in 1995, SIU Carbondale's Safe Zone program is one of the oldest in the nation. Our Safe Zone trainings educate our campus and community about LGBTQIA+ terms, etiquette, culture, and history. Your participation helps to create an inclusive, affirming, and empowering campus climate.

The Curkin Center is resuming our three social and support groups for the 2026-2027 academic year! These will begin again on the week of August 17th! On Mondays, from 4-5:30, Kaleidoscope will meet in SSB 170. Kaleidoscope is our general LGBTQIA+ support group for SIU students (and usually a q***r faculty member or two to dish on our weekly topic with!) Then, on Tuesdays from 1:30-3, Spectra meets in SSB 170! Spectra is our q***r neurodivergent social and support group (also topic based, focusing on the intersections of q***rness and accessibility). Lastly but not leastly is Transitions, which meets on Wednesdays from 3:30-5 PM in Morris Library 480A (fourth floor, corner room)! Transitions is our longest running group, and is for trans, nonbinary, gender variant, and questioning students at SIU. Sometimes a trans alumni or trans elder pops in to answer any burning questions you might have! Questions? Shoot us a DM, give us a call at 618 453 5627, email [email protected], or visit the Paulette Curkin Pride Resource Center on the first floor of the Student Services Building!

The Paulette Curkin Pride Resource Center is closed 8/1-8/9. See ya at school, Salukis!
