We are seeking full-time fisheries research technicians (4-5) to join us within the Center for Fisheries, Aquaculture, and Aquatic Sciences (CFAAS) at Southern Illinois University in Carbondale, Illinois. The preferred start date is May 12th and will continue until August 15th with a possibility for extension until December 2025 or transition into the M.S. in the CFAAS program.

Responsibilities include:
Assist graduate students and researchers by performing fieldwork to complete fish population, water quality, and habitat assessments, including surveys, species identification, and data collection as well as assisting with project planning, support, and implementation. This may include boat electrofishing, setting gill nets, hydroacoustics, and telemetry.

Assist graduate students and researchers by compiling data and laboratory work, including assembling information from hardcopy and digital sources, performing data entry, preparing samples for stable isotope analysis, species dissection, and identification…

These turtles (Musk Turtle and Common Snapping Turtle) were caught in fyke nets that were targeting the fish community in Buttonland Swamp.

Lauren (CFAAS fisheries tech for Dr. Garvey) and Evelyn (Master's student for Dr. Kwasek) went to the Aquaculture America 2024 Conference in Texas.

Lauren presented her research on environmental plasticity of Zebrafish at the conference.

The last picture is of phytoplankton cultures at Friedrich Aquarium.
