Small groups at Thomas Elementary are in action!

What is a small group? First, teachers use a variety of assessments and use the data to appropriately group students in reading and math. Some students are pulled out for intensive instruction while others work with the teacher in a small group on targeted skills. Each classroom has small group blocks throughout the day for this instruction. We are lucky to have paraprofessionals who push in to the classrooms to assist with this work!

Mrs. Dozier's class learned about "The Magic of Mistakes" and how they can make you smarter, and you can learn from your mistakes. The class took this lesson and applied it when playing Jenga! In their groups they supported each other when a member was making a move. Then, they worked together when the tower fell to rebuild it.

Jamir watched in wonder at a grasshopper nymph today on the playground. It was small as a drop of rain.

Did you know?
• A grasshopper sheds its skin 5-6 times as it grows.
• A nymph looks just like the adult insect.
• They eat the same plants as their adult parents right after they hatch.
• A nymph doesn’t have fully formed wings yet.

Yesterday, Ms. Crombar’s class completed a STEM challenge after learning about teamwork and partner expectations! They worked in pairs to try to build the tallest, sturdiest tower with marshmallows and toothpicks! Students did a great job working together and exercising critical thinking skills. 👏🏼

It’s always a great day to be a Thomas Tiger! 🐅

Thomas staff welcomed second and third graders this morning, helping them with the breakfast routine, find their teachers, and with morning procedures. Our Tigers have their first full day tomorrow! Remember, breakfast begins at 7:30, and school begins at 8:15! Be sure your child knows his/her dismissal arrangements and call with any changes. 🧡
